This morning I finally got to take one of Active Rain's live webinars. Often times, I will hear about them via email blast and I already have plans, but today, my plans got wiped out by a snowstorm.
So, as I was slowly getting into my day, I checked my email and saw the blast. Lo and behold- I was right on time to attend this one live!
In "Is Blogging A Waste of Time?", Bob Stewart discussed some of the ways you can determine whether you are on track and your blog is getting traffic. Check out Active Rain University for this and other classes and webinars.
Of the take-aways that I got, the one that stuck out the most was tracking which AR posts get the most traffic. Now, I've done this before, but I hadn't ever gone back quite as far as Bob suggested. This time, I went all the way back to my first days with AR.
So, Which posts do get the most traffic? For my readers, it begins with sarcasm... I've been known to have a bit of an acid tongue in the past, and sarcasm is part of my vocabulary. Anything with a tongue-in-cheek observation of every day life, a poke at those social nuances some hold dear, or - best yet - an out-and-out rant ranked very high. Particularly when it was aimed at a bank. See: "Dear Wells Fargo...Congratulations!" That was my second most visited post, at 3500 clicks. [The most visited post was "Is Your Real Estate Transaction Like Pulling Teeth?" with over 5,000 clicks.]
Next up in visits were the FAQ series for both Home Buyers and Sellers. Funny, because those were fairly easy to come by - I just took them from the most asked questions I get about Real Estate... I guess that's why they are called "FAQ" - Frequently Asked Questions (Duh moment!).
After that, the posts that have gotten several hundred clicks are those regarding local events and area specific home tips. For example, my post about What to do After a Springtime Hail Storm in the Rockies seemed to resonate with over 740 clicks.
So, there it is. My blueprint for getting more clicks to my blog. But I do have to be careful... A good rant is fun, but I don't think I can win a lot of people over if that's all I do.
I'll have to stick with what I know best - helping people understand and navigate their Real Estate transactions and the wonderful area of Colorado where I work and live!
