Hello P2A People,

I've been working my way through my site, adding custom content as I can. I do have some of the Template Content pages (particularly Buyer & Seller Toolkits and pages with reports) up until I can create more original content of my own.

My question is this: from a Search Engine Optimization standpoint, I read somewhere that if you have a template site and use any of the provided content, you should have the pages set to "no index"for the Robots.

Comments, please! Thanks in advance.

Beth

Beth,

Point 2 has a great platform, don't worry about the "no index" issue.  Build contextual links - stay involved in Blogging here at activerain and other places across the internet.

Searh for "Stuart Real Estate" on google for an example of how well you can potentially place with a template site with mostly Point2 default content.

You will usually see my www.StuartFloridaUSA.com website on the first page.

Welcome to active Rain and good luck with your Point2 website.

Hi David,

Thanks for your comments. I did indeed Google you as suggested above, and found you at the bottom of the first page - not shabby, at all.

Are you telling me that on the page where you check for the search engines to do their thing, you are allowing the robots to index the template pages?

Would you mind telling me how long the site has been up, and how long have you owned the domain name?

Thanks so much, very interesting.

From the standpoint of SEO, you should get the provided content off the site as soon as you can.  However, when you mention the report pages, it's even more important from a lead generation issue.  I make 100% of my real estate commission income from my web sites (2).  I'm transitioning from a completely self-produced and maintained site to a Point2 site.

You should have your report pages customized as quickly as possible and have reports specific to your market, particularly statistical reports of market condition, sold properties, current inventories, etc.  Most of my leads (1100 now in my list) come from those who request my annual sold statistics report.  Every January I go into my MLS reporting system and pull sold stats for the previous year.  I create a .pdf report set and set it up on the site.  If they want the reports, they go into the automated drip campaign and I work them until they go away or do a transaction.  The beauty of this is that I spend a couple of hours once a year to generate and upload these reports.  I ride them for leads all year.  These are also quality leads, as the casual site visitor usually won't want to delve into the stats as much as someone actually interested in buying or selling.

Please do me a favor if you go to the site and request the reports.  Place "realtor" in the comments and uncheck the box at the bottom to receive emails.  That way you won't go into my campaign list.

Hello Jim,

Thanks for the information and your generous offer to view your reports. I so appreciate the help with direction for report content.

Everyone needs a mentor, thanks for sharing. (I'll be visiting your reports soon, and will clearly ID myself...to tired to do them justice just now).

I purchased the domain back in August of 2005.  If I remember right, back then I was building all the sites myself.  Sometime in early 2006, I moved most of my sites to either RealEstateWebmasters sites or Point2 sites.

I think that they are the 2 best in the industry.  I have done well in the search engines working with both for myself and also my internet marketing clients.

I do alot of testing to prove or verify the status of statements that people make about SEO - part of why the Stuart site is still mostly untouched from my Custom Template that I use to create Point2 sites for agents with an interest.

As a distributor for Point2, I can customize the template with some changes that help with placement and also when people have graphics they want to use on their headers instead of the ones that come with Point2, I can add them prior to sending out an invite for the free sites.  http://www.keystoflorida.com/ForAgents.aspx is the link for my Point2 templates.

I do recommend that you change the content on the pages - but more for getting prospects to respond than for placement.  Alot of the SEO issues are really dependent on who your competition is and which search engine you are working on placement for at the time.

Best of luck!

David, I just revisited this and realized I never acknowledged your last comments - though I wish to assure you I did read them at the time, and appreciate your taking the time.

I also visited your sites. You have quite an impressive International lineup! Must be interesting work!
