SETTING GOALS THAT ARE ATTAINABLE! lENN

Realistic goals will lead to extraordinary results.

I once interviewed an agent who said she would not be satisfied with a penny less than $250,000 in her first year.

I didn't hire her because I was afraid that she might also be unrealistic in other matters.  She did get hired by a large company and lasted a few weeks.

Successful agents set realistic goals to establish a benchmark.  If they don't reach it, they work harder.  If they exceed it, they adjust their goals upward.

Challenge yourself, but don't invite failure.

One thing for sure.  You don't impress anyone with unrealistic goals.  You impress with production.

This post is inspired by the one written by Wayne Martin this morning.

He states: "If we set goals that are measurable, attainable, realistic and timely, we can get there".

It reminded me of when I was the Operations Manager for a company that owned and operated 26 apartment complexes.

Some of our acquisitions had an outrageous amount of vacancies.  It was overwhelming for the leasing staff to know that they had 130 apartments to rent.  Is it possible?  Certainly, but how?

We developed a "Hot List" of 10 suites of various sizes and floor plans.  All they needed to concentrate on were those 10 apartments.  When one was rented, another was added to the list.  It always stayed at 10, but it was amazing the difference it made when their goals were realistic.

Make it a great day!

Lenn, you're so right about setting realistic goals, I think some people don't really know how to set achievable goals, but starting small and adding a few harder ones in the future once the others have been achieved will reap the benefits.

I really appreciate your knowledge and wisdom and thanks for commenting on my blogs. Have a wonderful Wednesday evening.

I like what you wrote "Challenge yourself, but don't invite failure".

Thanks Bob.  I see agents who are realistic and some not so much.

Guess who lasts longer and produces more.

Lenn we all need goals, and they need to challenge us.  But there is a big difference between challenge, and unreachable.  However, we can't be so conservative, that there is no challenge.

Dorie.  Absolutely.  Goals are essential to me, but being realistic is too.

George.  I'm not about to envite failure.  Small achievements are just fine.

I had the goal to get to Pat's get together yesterday by 1pm.  It turned out to be unrealistic!  My morning inspection lasted a long time!  Good thing you didn't ride with me!

Thanks for the re-blog Lenn, greatly appreciated.  As you said, goals can always be adjusted upward if what you've set for yourself is achieved.  The agent with the unrealistic goals that you didn't hire missed out on a great opportunity.

Jay.  I figured that out.  It wasn't a bad drive, an hour and 15 minutes.  Parked right in front of her house.  It was a very nice meeting.

Roger.  Indeed she did.  We were in Bethesda and she could have had a wonderful business.  In those days, none of my agents made under $100K and I gave them ALL OF THEIR BUSINESS.  Oh well.
