National Prescription Drug Take Back Day in Alvin Texas 713-822-1655

By
Real Estate Agent with David Tracy Real Estate #555994

I wanted to announce to those who live near Alvin Texas that Alvin has scheduled another National Prescription Drug Take Back Day!

What exactly does this mean? It means you don't have to trash the drugs you are no longer taking. You just take them to one of the locations mentioned below and they will take care of the rest.

Some people don't realize that you SHOULD NEVER FLUSH UNUSED DRUGS DOWN THE TOILET. In some cities the waste water treatment plant recycles the water into drinking water. You should know that this water has been treated to the inth degree and is drinkable. So you can see why you should not dump unused drugs down the toilet.

In other cities treated water (which is drinkable) is routed to the ocean. Water laden with drugs can affect the marine life there.

Below is the email I received from my friends at the City of Alvin. If you are considering buying a re-sale home or a new construction home in Alvin; give me a call I will be more than happy to assist you. There is almost nothing about Alvin that I don't know.

The Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) has scheduled another

National Prescription Drug Take Back Day!!

As a collaborative effort, the Bay Area Council on Drugs and Alcohol (BACODA) and the DEA will provide Brazoria County this terrific opportunity to safely dispose of unwanted, unused and expired medications.

All prescription & non-prescription drugs are accepted in a drive through collection process and disposed of properly.

National Prescription Drug Take Back Day addresses a vital public safety and public health issue. Studies show that a majority of abused prescription drugs are obtained from family and friends, including from the home medicine cabinet. In addition, Americans are now advised that their usual methods for disposing of unused medicines—flushing them down the toilet or throwing them in the trash—both pose potential safety and health hazards. You can help prevent pill abuse and theft by ridding your home of potentially dangerous expired, unused, and unwanted medications.

TIPS:

·         All items can be left in the original packaging.

·         You do not have to empty bottles into a zip lock.  You may leave the items as you found them and bring them for disposal.

·         All “over the counter” medicines/drugs are accepted.  For example: cough syrup, anti-acids, aspirin, cough drops, eye drops.  Anything you can purchase without a prescription is accepted.

·         All prescription medicines/drugs are accepted.  For example: Vicadin, Lipitor, Nexium, Plavix, Seroquel, Advair Diskus.

·         Needles will be accepted and disposed.

·         The RX does not have to be in your name.  We do not check the label or ask how the RX drugs came into your possession.

I just pulled out some antibiotics the other day that were from (of all things) 2006! Didn't know that you were not supposed to throw them in the trash (I wouldn't consider flushing).

Sussie,

This is really sound advice, and a great service.  We have always taken our pet's drugs back when they are done with it, and our vet gives them to people who cannot afford to buy them for their pets...they are still good...Neither one of us takes any prescription drugs.

Excellent cause to support, especially about dumping unused drugs down the sink.

People have to realize when they do this, they might as well just dump them into the next glass of water they are going to drink.

Sussie, I will turn in the expired drugs to the Take Back thing they have in front of Costco every month.

FWIW, if  I live in a town that turns sewer water into drinking water, I am moving somewhere else!

Sussie,

Great post as most folks including me have no clue what to do with these old prescriptions. I never ever flush these things anywhere but have thrown them into the grarbage. We need this program here in Katy.

Susie-This drug collection project is a great service. Water contamination from commercial projects and environmental disasters is what many worry about but drugs not handled properly is a big deal too.

Melissa ... I have done that too! I had some from 2003 up to current.

John I am hoping all cities and towns have a similar program for people to use.

Alex .... we recycle ours and take them to be disposed of.

Kathy and Debbie ... I was so glad when they started that program here. Now I don't have to worry about polluting the ground water or our oceans.

That is so true Bryan! If people thought of it that way then they would not do it ... they should wonder if they would eat a fish with two or three heads too!

Fred ever since I learned that a city can turn that kind of used water back into drinking water makes me make sure I will never live in a town that does that! PLUS! I wonder if those bottled water companies use recycled water. If they get their water from municipality.

Robert and Bob I did not know either until I was informed about this program.

Wayne yes that is too true there are so many things we need to watch out for!

Yolanda yes now I am very careful!
