Dig out, dig in, dig deep...

...well, Wisconsin will be open tomorrow,
probably running three hours late.
Theresa and I spent two hours digging out over a foot of the white stuff
you like to see at Christmas, and start to get annoyed with about this time of year.
But digging out is a lot easier than
digging in and rebuilding in the storm-ravaged South.
How do you start over with nothing?
Lost loved ones, no home, neighbors gone.
And the work that awaits this country as it grows back together with families reaching out for their soldiers,
soldiers wishing for peace,
all of us needing change, wanting to be heard, healthy and whole.
Our backs may ache, our hearts might be a little heavy-
Some of us might not even hope.
Let's all dig deep, and share what we have.
Whatever we can give,
with each other.
Today.

Your right, it is much easier to dig out than to dig in for the long haul, got insurance?

Take care!

We are breaking records with snow over here. It makes you slow down and appreciate things (or I guess it makes some people really mad!). Maybe a colorful snow shovel will help brighten up shoveling! As you said in your post, it could be worse. I think I'd rather get snowed in!

Great perspective, Steve! If I still lived in Menomonee Falls I would have been there with my shovel after reading this. "All of us needing change" seems to be a pretty strong theme today, and we all need to realize that each of us has the power individually to effect that change.

Hey Steve!

Thank you for the thoughtful post!  I really appreciate how fortunate we are.

How much did you get? we got 13.3 inches yesterday, but that's not why I wrote...

After I dropped Ashley at school (yes, Madison schools were open!), I pulled out the snowblower.  I thought I'd hit the neighbor's drive first.  While I was across the street, another neighbor, came over and started on mine.  We finished, and went to another neighbor's (some of our neighbors are elderly, one has been ill). After we finished, that neighbor came out and wanted to give us money!  Then we pushed a truck out of the snow for another neighbor.  With some hot chocolate, we could have had a block party!

It was a really sweet morning!!  Nothing beats a neighborly neighborhood!
