Amber Thomas, President of Austin Platinum Top 50, lined up another powerful presentation! Her session on Thinkers and Doers was well received last Friday with everyone anxious to listen to the 3 top speakers she was able to schedule!
1. Margaret Shaw, the Economic Redevelopment Program Manager for the City of Austin, proved to all of us her contagious enthusiasm for Austin is making a difference in getting Austin on the map! She reiterated the City’s role is to facilitate the process for the benefit of the community. The major focus areas are:

2. Garner Stoll, Director of Planning & Development Review for the City of Austin, presented a detailed synopsis offering good insight to the guide for managing the change in Austin. Considering the conservative estimate that Austin will be adding 750,000 new people by 2039 and 300,000 new jobs the City’s” To-Do” is growing! They are working on a comprehensive plan which includes community engagement, sustainability and implementation.

3. John-Michael Cortez, the Community Involvement Manager of Capital Metro, concluded the mini summit with how Capital Metro is connecting people, jobs and communities by providing quality transportation choices. The possibilities are endless and are something we have to be working considering 150 people a day are moving to Austin. We need sustainable mobility as our population increases..by 2030 our population is estimated at 3 million!

It’s good to know we have plans (even if we don’t all agree on them) that intelligent people are working on to shape our cities growth.
