Anti-Spammers Unite! Using Captcha Codes to Eliminate Spam

Are you as sick of spammers as I am? Their black hat tactics are enough to drive a person crazy.

When we post an article to our blog, we usually welcome the comments of our readers. What we often find, however, is tons of spam disguised as "comments". Frustrating, to say the least.

I am a huge fan of WordPress. I love the cost-effectiveness, the user-friendly platform and tons of options for customization.

During my search for a plugin to help the eliminate (or at least greatly reduce) the spam issue I have been facing, I found a great little plugin called, Captcha Code. In about 2 steps, you install and set-up how you want your captcha to work. Ta da! A little more security and a lot less frustration.

Anti-Spammers Unite - Using Captcha Codes to Eliminate Spam

Spammers don't want to be bothered searching for opportunities to post their comments. So, they use "spambots" that automatically find a way to torture you. These spambots aren't able to add spam comments because they are unable to automatically complete the code required to comment.

WordPress offers tons of spam plugins. So, choose which one works best for you.

Happy Blogging!

Pamela,  What a good idea!  I'm not really bothered much by spammers on my AR blog.  I've had maybe one or two, and they seem pretty small time.  I will work on this captcha code thing though!

Pamela, Thought that I would stop by & simply say hi [we are not active in the business ] but then your posting caught me. Since I do the typing & don't yet get down  the steps to 'compute' on any regular basis
suspect that this blog is passed by.  Yeah!
Good points and glad tell you so.  Have a good rest of the week.

Barb

Hi Marge - AR is great for not allowing spam.  I've only had a couple in all the years I've had my account.  Thanks for responding.

Hi Rebecca - Active Rain has a wonderful little link called, "Report a Concern".  Place your mouse in the lower right corner of comment box to see it.  I suspect this helps a lot.

I'm not a fan of captcha, but now every blog post of AR has it. I see a lot of complains and blog posts against it. Go figure....Some people like, some are not.

I don't drop staff in 'drop here' and I'm still able to post my comment. So what is the point of 'captcha' under each blog post if you can comment anyway?

Hi Inna - Valid points!  I've never come across a captcha that lets you comment without entering the code.  Kind of defeats the purpose of the captcha, doesn't it?  Thank you for your point of view.
