Win the Day!

This is a page out of Brian Buffini's coaching, but relevent to all, and important to remember as we begin the new year.

It's easy to get carried away with the urgency of our business models. Clients call, expecting or demanding an immediate returned call.  A deal seems to be on life support, so we give it CPR to the end, a buyer who needs everything right now, and not tomorrow...you get the picture.

Here's what we need to make sure we do...spend time every day working ON our business, not just in our business.  The ideal; 2 hours a day of proactive lead generation.  Personal notes, calls to past clients and referral partners, visits to past clients or referral partners.  Business to business lunches, etc.

Now I understand that everyone has a different business model, but ultimately, we all need to continue to prospect for new clients.  I don't care how much business you do, or how long you have been in it.  You need to continue to prospect.

It is easy to forget the value of a single day.  We get caught up in putting out fires, and haven't worked each day to make our business stronger.  Every day, we need to ensure we put at least one foot forward in our business.  Each and every day can have a HUGE additive effect.  Win today, most days, and you will win the week, month, and year.  Let's all have our best year ever in 2007!

Thanks Bob,  You are right, it is so easy to spend our time firefighting and not get down to business generation.

Good reminder to take time each day to back out sometime and adjust our sails.

The best thing about "win the day" is that we don't get discouraged if it doesn't happen one day.  Just get back on the bandwagon and do it right tomorrow!

Chris,

You are exactly right!  We don't need to win every day, only more than we lose.  Thank God for that, because I seem to lose one or two days a week putting out fires.

Let's take today, and get the very most out of it, so we have no regrets tomorrow.

It's strange to consider that any day that was wasted can't ever be recovered.  It makes me feel more pressure to make them count.

Thanks Bob for the post. I spent most of last Thursday and Friday putting out "fires" for my agents. Now here I am on a Sunday taking care of MY business! A great reminder!

Debbie-

thanks for the feedback.  You are experience what all broker managers go through...myself included.  I TRY to make sure to get in some work of my own every day.  Sometimes it doesn't happen, but mostly I am able to win the day, by spending a couple of hours building MY business.  All we can do is be consistent, and persistent.

Bob,

I will miss the Region Meeting!  I feel bad, there is always so much to take with you when you leave at the end of the day!  We will be in Florida, taking in the sun:)  See you at the Hartford TP?  I look for you!

Bob, you are right.  Michael Gerber talks about working on your business in his book the E-Myth.

Tim,

That is one of my favorite books.  I think he did a great job of creating an awareness of issue I hadn't considered. Thanks for the feedback.
