Look who walked past my kitchen window looking for a handout. Perhaps Mrs. Turkey will decide
the grub is pretty good and build her nest nearby. Other years we have had as many as three hens and
thirteen chicks visit our backyard.

So entertaining. I will keep my camera handy for future photo opps.

I'll look forward to more pictures of your visitor(s), Mary. Any toms among them? I've seen them chase hikers in some of our parklands--not so nice at times!

That is a good size turkey. I guess he feels safe since it is a long time until Thanksgiving.

Lottie, at this time of year we don't usually see the the Toms in our yard. They tend to stay off in the woods or across the road in the field. The females must like the more protected area around the house.

Debbie, that was my thought, too. Love to watch them.

Hi Mary...We have quite a few wild turkeys at Lake Anna also and I have noticed that they seem to be strolling around a bit more lately enjoying the beautiful spring weather.

Hi Mary, How cool is that. Thankfully you don't live further out with the coyotes as then you wouldn't likely have many raccoon's, squirrels or turkeys, :-)

Mary, that is a great shot!  We used to see turkeys quite often before we moved.  It is good to see them again, even if only in your photograph!

We have a flock that leaves around our neighborhood. I see them crossing the street quite often this time of year.

Mary,

Now that's an unusual visitor! Obviously, your yard has good curb appeal, it smells fresh, it's not cluttered and it looks good too!

Perhaps a nest is coming soon - now that would be exciting!!!

Hello, Kate.  Spring is their most active time.  I think the hens are scoping out the best place food sources.

William, my thought, too.  Even though I live in country, I grew up in city.  Not sure I want to deal with predators like coyotes or even bears.  Have a good day in my favorite southern CA city, San Diego.

Tony, I am so glad that I could capture this turkey on film (no really digital) yesterday.  I put more seed out for them this morning.

Than, just saw the turkey again this morning.  Guess it likes my yard.

Patricia, I just looked out my window as I was commenting to Than and saw the turkey again.  I bet she has built her nest nearby.  Have good day in Texas.

Debbie, I love seeing photos of your area, too.  This afternoon I heard the Pileated Woodpecker, but have not captured his photo yet. Have wonderful evening.

Hi Joni, I am hoping that she likes the woods behind my house well enough to build her nest. The chicks are so, so cute when they first hatch.

How wonderful to share your space with wildlife. The coyote that paid us a visit yesterday would have been quite mesmerized by this turkey - no doubt with visions of a Thanksgiving dinner. Lol.

Hope you're having a great week Mary.

Oh my, I am sure the coyote would make short work of my turkey & her chicks. So for now I am gcoyote coyotes aren't in my area.

Hi Mary, we also see all kinds of wildlife here.  Yesterday, driving home from Northern Virginia with my sisters on I-64W ... a bear cub was crossing the road in front of us...s/he got across safely but we never saw the mother bear.

Rebecca, Awesome.  I have only seen a bear cross the road once,  That was a more remote part of PA.  However, we have friends who live in southern Erie County that have to protect their bird feeders from bears.  I hope you had a good trip with your sisters.
