Spring Break Colorado Style and A Family of Three Enjoying Time Together. My daughter is on spring break this week, so my husband and I did what we could to get some time off together so we could enjoy a few days as a family.
The trip started off pretty well. A spring storm had blessed us with snow just a day before, and we heard rumors of another storm on the way. Heck...we've been hearing rumors of storms all winter, so we didn't care and we headed on down the road for a few days away from home. At this point I wanted Sierra to have her picture taken along the side of the road to show how much snow there actually is. The teenager declined. It wasn't a good picture taking day. There were some mumbles about it being a bad hair day. At least that's the way I summed it all up.
Our goal was a little know place called Rifle, CO. Specifically Rifle Falls State Park. This place is really amazing. It has the 3 waterfalls you see and numerous caves and hiking trails for all ability levels. Unfortunately this is the best picture I could get on our one day of planned fun at the park. The weather was bad enough to keep even the most seasoned mountain lion under cover. It rained and snowed and rained and snowed all day and all night. By the way, there is a lot of wildlife in this area...including mountain lions. The trout were stacked in the creek coming out of the falls.
Today was a much better day with only a few rain showers off and on. It was also a much better hair day. Sierra decided today was a good day for a picture at the falls.
Rifle Falls State Park is really off the beaten path. No one goes to Rifle, CO for fun, but this place should be on your list of places to visit. There are 3 state parks with amazing fishing opportunities and one local park with climbing walls to challenge all abilities. There are also some wonderful dining opportunities.
This is what I did for spring break.
