REALTORS'® Pledge of Performance - What Does It Mean To You?

By
Real Estate Agent with Village Real Estate Services, Inc.

The National Association of REALTORS® was formed in 1908 to provide an ethical guideline for those individuals involved in the practice of real estate.  They followed the lead other business professionals such as doctors and lawyers who had united to provide accountability for those professionals.  Later, in 1913, the National Association of REALTORS® drafted and adopted the REALTORS'® Pledge of Performance.

For those who have sworn to abide by the Code of Ethics and the REALTORS'® Pledge of Performance, it is more than an oath.  It is a framework for a business model that requires our performance and adherance to a higher standard of business practices.  REALTOR® members who do not adhere to these guidelines are subject to disciplinary action and sanctions.

If you are considering buying or selling a home, it would be wise to ask the agent you are interviewing if they are in fact a REALTOR® and what that means.

If you are a REALTOR®, I would encourage you to make the REALTORS'® Pledge of Performance a part of every listing presentation and buyer's presentation you do in the future.

Call me old-fashioned, but I am proud that 100 years ago a group of our peers had the integrity to form an association that holds professionals practicing real estate to a highER standard of performance.  Happy 100th Anniversary to the National Association of REALTORS®.

Hi Marlene, Nothing Old Fashioned about PRIDE. It does seem to be in shorter supply these days or is it just that fear has taken over and filled the current thought waves. Either way, you do great justice to our dedication in our careers as REALTORS. ( Shortcut to the copyright mark doesn't work anymore. Can you fix it?) I am da-- proud of my career and especially of having you as my fellow colleague in the profession. And that is besides your wonderful friendshipf course.

Dear Tom & Lars - Try to stay warm.  I share your passion for our profession and being a professional.  I guess that's just something that never goes out of style.

Hi Sally - Glad you liked the pledge.  It is a great thing to give to our clients.

William - I so agree that taking pride in a job well done is something that we have in common.  I am so blessed to call you my colleague and friend.  And for the registered symbol, you need to hold down the alt key and hit 0174 on your ten key pad (be sure your num lock is on) :)

I am with Sally, that is something I will be handing out to clients.  I think I will print it on parchment.

Joan - So glad this is useful for you.  I thought it was pretty special.

Randy - Love the parchment idea.  I've used it in the past as well.  You might want to laminate it too.  For some reason, things that are laminated are hard to throw away.
