Life is Too Short To Work With Jerks!

Sometimes effectiveness is more about what you don't do than what you do! Are any of your clients or customers the high maintainence type? Would you be better off letting go of them and freeing up that time and energy for the "perfect" client?

On a regular basis, perhaps monthly, do a review of the people you are working with and see if there is somebody you should fire. You know the folks I am talking about. The ones that drive you crazy with unreasonable demands. The ones who do not respect you, your work and your time. If you are working with any of these, consider just saying adios. Refer them to someone else or just let them know you do not think you are a good fit for them.

There are really two situations that could be operative here: First, the client just might not be a fit for your style. Say, you are a big picture type and this client is a very detail oriented, engineer type. They can be referred to another agent who loves the detail part.

In one of my seminars, when we were talking about niches, one of the agents said she specialize in working with grumpy, old men. I loved this! If it is not a fit, don't struggle...find someone who it is a fit for.

The second situation is when they are truly jerks. The ones who call at all hours, who make unreasonable demands, who don't appreciate what you do and don't think you are worth your commission. Usually the red flags are here with these people from the beginning. JUST SAY NO.

While, we all want to grow our business, it is important to realize you do not need to take everyone who comes along. You'll be much  happier and do more business if you turn donw the energy vampires and focus on working with the nice people who appreciate you. Believe me, there are enough of them out there!

If you don't respect yourself, no one else will either!

Oh my gosh--- you are so right. Get rid of jerks, QUICK. There are a few jerks, only a few thankfully, I wish I would have shed within the first hour of meeting. Go with your gut feeling I say now: if it says He/She is a bad egg, dump 'em! Don't waste your time and gas hauling them around.

Kathy-You sound like a wise woman. I find when your radar gets good at this, few show up. They get attracted to the "needy" people!
