La Jolla Coastal Resident Taking Time to Smell The Flowers

Last evening
, the sunset was outrageous. Regretfully I was leaving a listing as I saw it and it was too late to get there. So I had time late today and thought I might get a repeat show.

It was apparent when I got there that there was no clouds but just overcast haze, no sunset was going to be showing much today. While I was waiting to see if there was going anything work taking photos of, I was entertained twice. Right below where I was standing in my sheltered space where I take photos, was Miss California being photographed with her state crown, Miss California Banner and the California State flag. Yes I took a few photos but I can't show them online for reasons many of you will understand. I didn't ask for or receive a model release and these were not casual photos because she was modeling for her photographer.

Well, all is not lost. I titled this, a La Jolla coastal resident taking time to smell the flowers and I was able to get some really neat photos of this resident.

Hi Tony and Darcy, The odd thing is, when I called this little guy , he came right over. I think the squirrels are used to being feed and if someone calls or shows food, they come a running, LOL

William,

Love the shot, and the squrrel beats out Miss CA in MHO...no posing or bathing suit or banner necessary, just Nature's perfection. A

Hi Alexandra and Ron, I will say this, Miss CA is really beautiful. With that said, the squirrel was a bit unusual. I have a photo of it involved with another flower of the same variety and I was taking quite a few shots and it closed it eyes as it put its face in the flower and then opened them in the next shot when it heard the camera. Looking them in sequence it is really unusual, at least from my end as I was observing it closely and the two photos together it was sensing of a fragrant flower like a human might do. I will comeback to this comment and add them both here so you can see what I was looking at.

What a cutie that little critter is, William! And in this picture, you can count every hair on her body!  In the spirit of spring, when we can all be a little "squirrely," CONGRATULATIONS on having this blog FEATURED in the Photos group!

Hi Mryl, We all tend to really like things that likes us back. If I was as successful at the zoo as I am with squirrels, I bet my photos would be so much better. Imagine some of things they do and if they would come when called, wow, that would be very cool. That got me to thinking about something else. I usually call or make some sort of noise when photographing animals and most of them just ignore me and everyone else that talks to them. You would think that they have been there a while and would have learned at least a little English by now. I think the word I was going for is immersion. LOL

William - If you haven't already seen it, you need to see the movie, "The Life of Pi."  The movie has some of the most amazing cinematography I've seen.  And it has an almost mystical interaction with animals, colors, and environment.  I think you'd love it!

I've been to the zoo twice, and don't seem to come away with the picture outcome I had hoped for.  One of the more frustrating things I tried to photograph at the zoo was a pond area loaded with a gazillion flamingos.  They were all gorgeous.  But as a group, they wouldn't all pose in concert like I needed 'em to.   I felt like I was trying to herd cats... LOL

William,

That squirrel was really expressing himself/herself to you. This creature was having a great time enjoying the flower, and yes, I would do that when something smells wonderful to draw it in to one's memory. A

Hi William, once again in San Diego - for Brian Buffini's Peak Experience. Will be here for 4 days - just in case, if you have time, just wanted to meet and say 'Hello'.

(And yes, I'll say 'Hi' to Brian...)

And hopefully, Thursday is a sunny day so you may be able to get a good sunset picture.
