Sweet Bananas Grill - Wellington's Best Cuban and Latin Eats! La mejor comida cubana en Wellington!
It seems that there is a consistent hunt for the best Cuban sandwich here in Wellington and Palm Beach County. After all, this is not exactly Calle Ocho. In Miami you can find the best Cuban food especially when you want it fast. But here in Wellington and the rest of Palm Beach County, well, that is a totally different story. The times we have turned in so called 'Cuban sandwiches' to the shop keepers are numerous along with the words, "this is not a Cuban sandwich, this is a ham sandwich".
All that has changed when we noticed that near LA Fitness at the Wellington Green Mall on the out-parcels there was a Sweet Bananas Grill. So then we looked it up on our iPhones. They are certainly mastering their online marketing because the menu and the prices were so easy to discover on their website and Google places!
They just opened up on Monday. They are doing their "soft opening" right now as they are training their new employees about cuban and latin foods, how to make a proper sandwich, what "Materva" is, etc.
Their niche is quality Cuban and Latin food served fast but it is not 'fast food' as you know it.
On Monday Nestor bought a take out Cuban Sandwich and I had a tiny taste to check the quality:). It was 'melt in your mouth' delicious. They use REAL Cuban roasted pork not the pressed pork sandwich meat that even Havana's on Dixie uses.
For $7 you get a huge Cuban sandwich and freshly made banana chips. That is a great price and voted now by us as the best Cuban sandwich in town!
After Tristan's game the other night, hungry as always, he wanted to stop and get something to eat. We decided to try their eat in dining. I broke my juicing in order to splurge on one of these amazing Cuban sandwiches and a bowl of black bean soup.
The black bean soup was by far the best, way better than Pollo Tropical and better than Havana's. And the best part is a large pint size bowl of black bean soup is only $4.00!!!
The restaurant is clean and very well organized. The staff are just learning how to serve the food, portions, etc so a little patience goes a long way as a patron of a new restaurant.
We were served our 3 Cuban sandwiches and Tristan opened his up and said, "dad, there is no pork on my sandwich, just ham". We looked and sure enough the correct portion of pork was not on the sandwiches. So we brought them to the line and explained to the employees that this was not correct. They took them back with a look of bewilderment on their faces as I don't think they quite knew what was going on.
The owner came out and apologized. Nestor started speaking Spanish to him, the owner is also Cuban. He said that we were right and that he was going to make it up to us by providing the correct amounts. He asked us to be patient because he was still training the brand new employees who all just started working there on Monday. We were there on a Wednesday night.
His name is Jose Villarino. He has a super great business owner attitude!
Sure enough, he made good on his promise and his employees all learned a valuable lesson in preparing the correct recipes.
We then met Hope who is his marketing person. She made the beautiful menus for Sweet Bananas Grill in Wellington. They also own a Sweet Bananas Grill in Ft Lauderdale.
We had a great conversation about business, marketing and Cuban food. The most impressive part of the entire evening is how Jose took the time to make sure his customers were pleased and taken care of and that he also spent time with us. The time spent is more valuable when you are a business owner than anything because that is what builds loyalty.
You will definitely want to go eat lunch or dinner at Sweet Bananas Grill. You can dine in or take out. The food is fabulous and it is authentic Cuban and Latin cuisine.
