But Do They Really Know What They're Looking For?
So you're new buyer client creates a list of what they're looking for in their next home. The list has the usual suspects: bedrooms, bathrooms, square footage, and location to name a few items from a typical list. You start searching with those exact parameters in mind and scrutinize every listing, deleting a few along the way that don't "fit their needs." But Do They Really Know What They're Looking For?
But then the unthinkable happens. The buyers don't pick any of the homes on "your" list. What? Not any of these fit their needs, But Do They Really Know What They're Looking For?
Did you ask what they "love" about their current home? Did you ask what are some of the features in their current home that they'd like to repeat? Did they tell you any stories about their current home? Extracting stories and the "loves" of their home will oftentimes turn up clues to what is the most important feature of the home that they'll fall in love with. Because oftentimes you have to ask the right questions to learn What They're Looking For because just when you think you have done all you can, they'll choose something entirely different than first discussed.
And if you've seen, "We Bought a Zoo" then you'll know that he asked for something "new" and instead they bought a dilapidated old house that included 47 animals and a defunct zoo!
