Mr. Google, who must be a big procrastinator, and that works in our favor, still has this image of the old filling station located on Main Street in Searcy AR, right across the street from the old Rendezvous.

I looked at it often and wondered what it originally looked like but no post cards or pictures ever showed up.  I liked the little column things.  Now when you drive by, it has a new look.  Look at this picture.

It has been made to look nice and they kept the columns and adorned them.  I tried a closeup to see what the new business might be that is located in this building.

Beyond Boundaries is the new occupant.  They have an attractive building for a home now.

I think those columns are Hollywood Art Deco design. I can see those columns used on a 1930's motel in Hollywood.

Don, I think you are right.  I wanted to call them Art Deco but was afraid I could be wrong.  Adding Hollywood to the name makes it more specific.

The design could be Mission Revival style also with the faux tile roof look.

O.k everybody, you can chime in anytime now. It's fun thinking someone actually had a design in mind for this Main Street building.

Don, you are right again.  The designers of this station didn't do the "normal" but seemed to have a flair for decorating.  Sure wish an original picture would turn up.

Don! A picture has surfaced.  Kelly, who owns it now, sent us this picture that was taken in 1944.  The station was built in 1938 and he bought it in 1974 and has just rebuilt it.  It was pretty classy, wasn't it?

I swear every time we would drive to Little Rock - my dad would have the car "serviced" at 99 Esso.  They would even come to your house, get the car, service it (whatever that entailed) and return it to your home.  I'm betting the bill was never more than $20, if that much.   Many is the time I've passed by the station with my friends, and have seen our car: it was the cream colored Dodge - with Fluid Drive - parked there, waiting to be returned to my Arch St. home.  It had been washed, too.  Guess that was part of the "service".

Thank you Kelly for the picture.  Brings back many memories, all good.  And thank you owners for doing your best to keep it intact and as it was.  Love the columns....would never have noticed them in "the day"....
