Low cost living in Amarillo TX

Living in Amarillo, TX costs less than the national average, according to an index that was published by the Council for Community and Economic Research. They show that Amarillo’s cost of living is almost 7% lower than the national average. When compared to Manhattan, the most expensive city to live, it looks like Amarillo is a great place to buy your dream home and settle down.

The Council for Community and Economic Research got their statistics by checking prices in over 300 of the nation’s large and small cities. It provides an economic snapshot that helps measure each city against one another. They use only use part of the city’s economic profile and did not use state or local tax burdens or inflation when they come up with their numbers.

The numbers used by themselves have very little meaning to most of us. However, when you put the numbers with other factors like taxes, wages, and other economic factors, you begin to see how useful studies like this truly are. It helps people determine what cities would be good for relocating or starting a new business.

This study shows that Amarillo, TX is not a city of high living costs, but a very favorable place to live. The index calculates a national average and shows how cities stack up against that average. So, let’s take a deeper look. When you compare a home of 2,400 square feet on an 8,000 square-foot lot, with two full baths and four bedrooms, in Manhattan it would cost you $1.3 million, while in Amarillo that same house would cost you $267,000.

In Manhattan a dozen eggs would cost you $2.71, while in Amarillo a dozen eggs would cost you $1.38. A bottle of 50 – 200mg Advil will cost $14.04 in Manhattan, and only $8.95 in Amarillo. So, this just helps give you a clear picture of just how low the cost of living is in Amarillo, TX.
