Gardenia as White as Snow
Gardenia is from China in the family of coffee plants and is the national flower of Pakistan.
The genus was named in honor of a florist/physician Dr. Alexander Garden of Charleston, S.C, who is responsible for its initial success as a house plant.
Gardenia blooming season is between April and August. The beautiful flower is white as snow, and is used for corsages and for its fragrance. Some ladies even put it in their hair. Gardenia has been noted as one of the best smelling flowers, and it is usually pollinated by insects
Gardenia Care
Original gardenias grew in swampy or low mucky areas; therefore they like naturally fertile acid soil and a large amount of water.
It is best to use your coffee grounds, oak tree leaves or pine tree needles for mulch cover, and acid fertilizers, also vinegar is used by some gardeners because of their acid loving nature.
Too much shade will attract sooty mold caused by whiteflies, one of the worst enemies. When it first starts, soapy water is helpful to remove the sooty mold.
Happy Wednesday!
