These are a few of my favorite things... for staging!

By
Home Stager with Home Star Staging

If you are a home stager and you keep your own accessory inventory then you know we all have our favorites when it comes to staging props and decor.  Over the years I've honed in on a few which help me with the method to my madness for my market in North Texas.  I'm happy to share below. These are just a few of my favorite things and how I use them in my staging to sell projects. I'd love to hear about yours (and in photos too!)

1. Iron and curly willow wall screens from Pier 1 - These 3 pieces are in continual "out to stage" mode. They're not only lightweight and easy to transport, they make a great statement in a room without taking away too much attention from the other details.  When you have a huge expanse of wall, these 3 things are definitely worth putting into action.  These are still available at Pier 1 the last time I checked and they were on sale!

2. Mirrors - Mirrors are another one of my favorite things for staging. They're versatile and useful for reflecting back light or a great view or vision in a room. My only rule of thumb is to make sure that whatever is being reflected back is actually pleasing or purposeful! I don't want to stare into a bathroom while sitting down to dinner at the dining table if that's what may be in the mirror!

3. Iron & metal art - No matter what part of the country you live in iron and metal art can work beautifully in many styles of homes and decor. Most of the iron work and metal art I keep in my staging inventory is lightweight and I generally purchase at least 2 or 3 pieces of the SAME piece. That way if I need to use them in a room with a big wall, it helps bring the entire room together. (And there are my 3 screens in the background again!)

Btw - I also use those same screens you have in the dining room photo for headboards which I see in the comment above.

Karen:  Will have to point out those screens of yours to my wife ... I think she'll fall in love with them too.  This was one great post, but the comments were unbelievably educational too!  I think all of the Stagers here should host a forum together ... keep this dialogue going.  Maybe like a weekly chat on Google+ ... or BlogTalkRadio program together ???  What a great promotion for all of you ... and great marketing for staging in general ...

We have a lot of metal art in our arsenal....we also have frames that are fabric covered and the fabric is easily changed to match the color scheme of the house.

Thank you for your thoughtful comments Gene and the suggestion... I think one stager is already on that thanks to you =)

Hi Valerie, I know Sally's art that you mention! And she's a fellow grad of the SAR Advanced training course with Matthew Finlason of HGTV's "The Stagers" - so we're like staging sisters when it comes to this stuff!

Metal art is one of my very favorites Sally & David!

What a kind thing to say Amanda and Jared! I'm lucky to work with such great clients!

Thank you Richard & Beth!

Great suggestions, Karen. I'm a huge believer in staging homes and always remind my clients that we really need to stage twice: first for photos, then for showings as the perspective changes when you are looking at a home on-line or in person. The better "staged" a home is, the quicker it always sells.

You're exactly right Nina! I tell my staging consultation clients the same thing - my purpose there is two fold; to give them a buyer's eye perspective & help rule out any objections and to help the photographer capture the best photos for the MLS because the 1st showing is always online!

Similar to your screens, I've used these two "leafy" iron hangings in multiple homes, especially the entry.  They sure do come in handy!
