What do Robert Noyce, the Spartans and the Human Genome Project have in common? All 3 share an important anniversary today on April 5.

While these interesting items are intriguing, they have nothing to do with my real estate business, which is helping people like you buy and sell homes in San Jose, Cupertino and Saratoga, Calif. They just add fun and fascination to life.

- 404 BC – Peloponnesian War: Lysander's Spartan Armies defeated the Athenians and the war ends.
- 1901 – New York becomes the first U.S. state to require automobile license plates.
- 1944 – The United Negro College Fund is incorporated. The UNCF is an American philanthropic organization that funds scholarships for black students and general scholarship funds for 39 private historically black colleges and universities. It is known far and wide for one of the most effective advertising slogans ever, “A mind is a terrible thing to waste.”
- 1961 – Robert Noyce, co-founder of Fairchild Semiconductor, is granted a patent for an integrated circuit. Robert Noyce, known as “the Mayor of Silicon Valley,” is granted a patent for an integrated circuit. Noyce co-founded Fairchild Semiconductor in 1957, and later Intel Corporation in 1968. Bob Noyce and Jack Kilby are credited with the invention of the integrated circuit or microchip which fueled the personal computer revolution and gave Silicon Valley its name.
- 2003 – The Human Genome Project is completed two and a half years earlier than expected.
