Look Who Escaped from the Chicken Coop

Look Who Escaped from the Chicken Coop

I spotted this girl who had escaped from her chicken coup and was just walking around in the bushes. I got a couple of pictures before the big dog in the yard started barking and she ran back inside.

She is a Red Sex Link hen and lays about 6-8 eggs a day every day of the year, not scared of predators, good disposition and a nice family pet.

Look Who Escaped from the Chicken Coop

Hens have to be careful as the hawks try to pick them off but usually after a few close calls, they run and hide from predators.

She was not afraid of me until the dog barked. Cluck Cluck!

Wouldn't it be fun to have chickens and get fresh eggs daily. How green is this? Have to make sure you are zoned for chickens before you buy any. Call me if you are looking for a home zoned for chickens and goats in the Inland Empire.

Hi Betty,

It is nice to be driving and find a cute little hen running through the countryside. I always keep my camera with me but unfortunately didn't yesterday so I just used my iPhone. Not the best quality but still cute!

I love the hens, my neighbors in New Jersey use to have them, they were everywhere, even ran into house once when we were having a delivery!

Hi Jaccinda,

The thing that went through my mind is maybe she was out on a jount to find a rooster. These chickens do not need a male. We should all take a lesson here. Just kidding??

Hi Christine,

I was reading a few of the comments from one article and everyone said they loved them like pets and would come in the house sometimes. She was sweet and not clucking at me and I am not sure she knew I was there until the dog barked.

Hi Karen,

I won a baby duck at a church fair and brought it home and it was such a great pet. Good memories for us.

Kristin - I think that he decided he wanted to be a "Free Range" chicken, rather than one of his cooped up cousins:-)

Hi Myrl,

Yes you are probably right and I saw her go back inside the coop but she knows the escape route so if she gets out to the main road, she will be chicken stew to the coyotes. I hope not as she is so cute.

Hi Steve,

Yes I too think that having a chicken would be a fun pet and it would drive my dogs nuts so that would be funny. They are already jealous of each other with us so they would be more jealous of the chicken. I wonder if chickens can be potty trained?

After visiting Old Fair Oaks Village near my home on Sunday, I encountered several of the "fowl" citizens.  A couple of them were taking on the cars that were coming down the street.  They seem to have a "Stand Your Ground" law in the Village.
