The annual Procession of the Species in Olympia is one of those very unique community events that makes me LOVE living here! This year's procession is tomorrow, Saturday, April 27th at 4:30 PM in downtown Olympia. And if you have never attended this event, you are in for a treat!
There will be plenty of sidewalk chalk for the crowd of onlookers to entertain themselves with their own street artwork while waiting for the parade to begin. And I say from experience that this chalk drawing is pretty irresistible, so just know if you think you are going to watch the children draw, next thing you know you will be on your hands and knees creating your own chalk masterpiece.
The Procession of the Species is a tribute to and celebration of our natural world, and the imagination and creativity of the participants always amazes me. I remember "trees" on stilts, bumblebees on bikes, huge spiders, dandelions on parade, giant orca whales and so many more favorites from past years.
Do NOT miss this year's Procession of the Species if you are going to be anywhere near Olympia tomorrow! Pictures don't do it justice, and words can't begin to capture what fun this event is - so just be there and see for yourself!
