It was such a beautiful day yesterday in Ojai, that I feel compelled to post about this wonderful community.
The atmosphere in Ojai is one of creativity, perhaps brought on by the natural beauty of the area and this beauty and glorious energy attracts artists of all kinds, which makes Ojai all that more interesting.
Ojai has a relaxing energy perhaps brought on by the Chumash Indians. Some 3000 years ago, the Chumash Tribe settled roots in the Ojai Valley, bringing their well-developed civilization with them. The name Ojai is originally from the Chumash tribe word “A’hwai” (pronounced ah hay) meaning “moon” or some say meaning “nest”. The Chumash lived in Ojai for hundreds of years, believing that the valley held mystical powers possibly due to the unique east-west configuration. Their tradition of respect for the land endures today among current residents who value this pristine environment and work to keep it that way.
Ojai is an eclectic community and is a major center for emerging philosophies and many people feel that its history as a sacred area for the Chumash Indians is due to a strong spirituality inherent in the land. Sages including Krishnamurti and Meher Baba also found Ojai a healing home for the heart and mind.
Ojai is the home of the famous Ojai Valley Inn and Spa, a great place to come to relax, get pampered in the Spa or enjoy a round of golf on one of America’s premier Southern California champion golf courses. This 18-hole golf course plays 6,292 yards with a par 70, rating of 71.0 and a slope of 132.
