The historic neighborhood of Montford has many defining attributes that make it one of the most popular neighborhoods to live in and visit in Asheville, NC.

Most of the architecture you will find in Montford are distinguished Victorian style homes that were prominent in the late 19th and early 20th centuries.  However in the late 1920’s, a new style began to emerge in Montford that incorporated the Victorian style with a Neo-classical flavor that adds to the complexity and wonder of the neighborhood.  As a native to Asheville, I have seen Montford evolve as some of the older homes in the neighborhood have been renovated and restored.  There has also been an emergence of many Bed & Breakfasts and other businesses in the recent past.

Riverside Cemetery is also located in historic Montford.  Dating as far back as 1885, the cemetery is still active today.  It is the burial place of noted author Thomas Wolfe and like the neighborhood, can be found in the National Historic Registry.

For all of it’s richness in architecture and history, Montford’s location is another major draw and makes it prime real estate.  Montford is just a short walk or bike ride to bustling downtown Asheville.  The neighborhood is also nestled close to the campus to the University of North Carolina at Asheville and the renowned Mission Hospital campus.

Home sales in Montford range from prices in the mid to high $200’s for a fixer upper, all the way up to 1 million dollars.  However, most home sales in Montford average between $350k-$500k.  For more information about Montford real estate and possible homes for sale, visit my website.
