P.E.I.'s Official Opposition is accusing the Liberal government of attempting to grab power from a private sector advisory group on tourism.
The government is considering making the Tourism Department a Crown corporation.
Tourism Minister Valerie Docherty told CBC News that the shift would take the marketing out of the hands of bureaucrats, and move the department to a private business model.
But tourism critic Jim Bagnall said the idea is more about reducing the role of the Tourism Advisory Council, a private sector group that provides advice to the government.
