Change is constant at the East Coast Music Awards, Festival and Conference.
The four-day celebration of East Coast music changes from year to year, from city to city and from province to province. Each one has its own distinct flavour and personality.
And each has its own legacy.
Change has certainly been a talking point for ECMA 2008 here in Fredericton. A number of things set this year apart.
First and foremost, the ECMAs have reached a milestone, 20 years of focusing one big spotlight on the singers, songwriters and musicians who create our music and the many other industry professionals who help them realize their artistic vision and get the finished product to the marketplace.
Secondly, this is the first time Fredericton has ever hosted the ECMAs and going to a new city always generates its own special excitement.
"One of the best things about going to a new city is the opportunity to work with a group of people that has no history or connection to a previous event," says Wade Pinhorn, chair of the East Coast Music Association's board of directors.
Pinhorn  says one thing that stands out for him here in Fredericton is the way the branding of the ECMA has sunk in.
Steve Horne, executive director of the East Coast Music Association, says people are really beginning to grasp the concept that the East Coast Music Awards, Festival and Conference is a whole lot more than a two-hour awards show on a Sunday night.
"We're a music industry festival that goes 24 hours a day and we're an industry conference and for a first-time city that's a lot to absorb so we've been working hard to educate the community about that. They've only ever seen the two-hour show on CBC before but they're really coming to realize what
we're all about, the bigger picture."

Hope PEI does well. Go Islanders!!!
