The Jersey Shore Is Open...Watch for Our Ads!
It's just six months and a few days since super storm Sandy hit the Jersey Shore but we'll be open for business this summer, according to Governor Christie.
At a Town Hall meeting yesterday on Long Beach Island, the Governor outlined recovery efforts. They include:
- Jersey Shore dredging projects will begin in local waterways in mid-July after all boats and other debris are removed. The governor said 1,400 boats were located in the water after the storm, and several homes and other debris also were swept out into the water and must be removed before dredging can begin.
- The state will provide $600 million for Rehabilitation, Reconstruction, Elevation and Mitigation grants that will provide as much as $150,000 to residents to rebuild their homes. The Governor explained that the applications should be available in three weeks.
- The state will spend $75 million for the restoration of multi-family units damaged by the storm.
- Applications will be available today (May 1) for $260 million that will be distributed in grants for up to $50,000 for business owners.
- No-interest loans ranging from $100,000 to $5 million will also be available soon.
- The state will also start a $25 million marketing and tourism campaign for the Jersey Shore in three weeks.
