The CAPS are not the only Hockey Team in DC - Check Out the CHEETAHs

The people who live in the DC Metro Area take their hockey seriously! We love to root for the Caps and Ovechkin.  We love to rock the red at the Verizon Center.  My daughter played ice hockey for the Montgomery Blue Devils at ARC, the ice hockey facility on Gude Drive, and for Holton Arms, her high school.  The Holton team practiced at the ice rink at Cabin John and played its games in Laurel at the Ice House.  There is lots of ice hockey in the DC area for kids of all ages - and adults too! Not every hockey mom dreams of her son going to the NHL though.  Some children and adults are from developmental disabilities, and the Cheetahs are their team.

Special Hockey Montgomery is an adaptive ice hockey program for children and adults with developmental disabilities. In addition to physical hockey skills, the program emphasizes the development of desirable individual characteristics such as dependability, self-reliance, concentration, willingness to share and personal accountability. The game of hockey is used to develop within each player the characteristics that will help the player to be more successful both inside and outside a hockey environment. Support from this program comes from the community. Middle and High School aged mentors take to the ice each practice to offer one-on-one assistance to Cheetah athletes.

You are invited to join the Cheetahs on May 11th for an evening of great food, music, raffles, and, of course
skating. This end-of-season celebration aims to raise $20,000 to support the Cheetah Special Hockey program. This event is open to skaters and non-skaters, friends and family, and anyone who wants to cheer!

The Cheetahs are inviting hockey players, figure skaters, and anyone who loves the ice to lace up their skates and have fun for a great cause. Don't want to skate? No worries. There will be other activities for you to enjoy. Come out to cheer and support an amazing group of kids.  Show your support for the Cheetahs by making a gift or volunteering to help with the event. 100% of the money raised will fund ice expenses and programs for the Cheetahs.

If you aren't in DC yet, but you want to be a part of this great hockey community! or if you are moving here anyway, and want to find a great home and learn more about the wonderful opportunities to get involved in sports and community outreach, then you should give the Lise Howe Group a call.  We realize that there is more to relocating to a new community than just buying a home. Our Group helps you find a home and helps you get settled in. We love our community and want you to feel the same way.

Sounds like a little of Denver out there... a sports crazed town filled with almost every sports team imaginable as well as a lot of strong semi pro teams and play too.

Hi Lise, I had to laugh at Patricia's comment.  Hope the May event is packed with people supporting the Cheetah Special hockey program.  GO Cheetah's!

I know from many years of experience that the sport of HOCKEY really brings people and communities together. GO CHEETAHS and good luck with your program.

Awesome.  Maybe after the Bruins win the Cup, they can come to D.C. to play against the Cheetahs!
