Courtesy is sometimes forgotten in our day to day business. How much more pleasant would our business dealings be if we all used professional courtesies. It is kind of like the Golden Rule, Do unto others as you would have them do unto you. Maybe we need to set a good example first and then encourage others to follow suit.

Professional Courtesy

Richard Weisser wrote an interesting blog on April 29, 2013 titled "How  much time should we give the seller to answer our offer?"

I live in an extreme buyer's market and if a property gets shown the showing agent qualifies for a 3 day cruise, Broadway tickets and a spa membership!  So, my opinion may not care much weight on this subject.  But, I speak from experience.

CourtesyIf someone takes the time to show and write an offer for one of your listings isn't it professional courtesy to reply to their contract offer?  My experience was several years ago when the seller told the young, new agent they didn't want to reply.  The day after 'deadline' I called the other agent to ask about the offer only to hear they didn't want to reply to it.

I accept a seller's position.  What I find unacceptable is the listing agents.  We work together whether we are in offices across town or the same building.  A successful closing requires a listing agent and a selling agent that work together to bring the buyers and sellers to the closing table.

Now this is where my blog is going!  If an agent writes an offer shouldn't you take the time to update them as to the status?  If another offer was accepted and you have 3 other offers with deadlines sometime in the next 12-48 hours is it not professional courtesy to let the other agents know so they can be more productive with their clients?  I promise I will remember an agent that took the time to save me time!

Wouldn't you want the same courtesy shown to you?

Professional courtesy!

Let me work for you because the agent with the sign in the yard works for the seller!

Debbie, I feel the same way.  Let's TRY to keep everything civil.  I don't often expect the other side to LIKE the offer, but I do at least expect a) an acknowledgment that is was received and b) a response, even if that response is "we're not negotiating with you because the seller thinks your offer is ridiculous!".
