What were they thinking??

As you can see the professionals that installed these fixtures just didn't care for the safety of the homeowner.  I know this area does not have or enforce any type of building codes but this was a "stick" built in 1998.  I hope this was done not to eventually hurt anyone but was done by unskilled labor or for some reason a short cut.   I can see a small child playing unattended as a recipe for disaster.

You can see the water runs out of the faucet next to the electrical outlet.  Good building practice would have a minimum

of at least 2'-3'of horizontal separation.  My recommendation is to remove one of the fixtures for the safety of the

occupants of the home.  I'm quite sure an insurance adjuster would be shocked to see this.  Situations like this are the

reason most of us are in this business, to help people and make them aware of potential problems when buying any

 home.

Hi Vince,

So you finally found the time to post huh? :-)

This is nothing but a stupid thing by the builder. Where was the supervisor when the took place? Where was the quality control?

I think they both were on vacation when it took place. I was LMAO when I saw the picture. By the way I think it should be a bit bigger for us older inspectors who are blind. LOL

Have a great day in Missouri.

Best, Clint McKie

Vince  I agree this was a stupid idea.  Would this have been a code violation back then and is it now?

Clint, "Old Blind Inspectors" makes me shiver at the thought.

John,  Good to hear from you.  As it stands there are no Codes in this County except for sewers.  Building codes do not exist so dangerous situations happen like this all the time.  Much like the road department,  unless someone is seriously injured or killed, rarely does any speed or advisement sign go on the roadway.  Building safety is similar but there is no building inspection entity to go to with issues.  ???  Keeps us busy with safety recommendations though.

Well you are still vertical I see.  Things must be going good if this is all you could find.  So what's the big deal here anyway a little "shock" every now and then is good for us it gets the heart pumping..  :~)

James, Good to hear from you.  The other day I had to put my best four legged friend down.  After 14 years going just about everywhere I went, except inspections, it was really hard to see him go but I also could not see him suffer any more. So my blogging time was halted.  I can see by your electrical jokes that water and electricity mix well at your house.  Just a jolt a minute keeps a little spring in your step, eh??

Vince, I guess you have to scratch your head and wonder what were they thinking...oh, wait...they weren't thinking.
