We all have a choice...

We can choose to be the best at what we do or we can choose not to be the best.  We can choose to excel at whatever we put our hands to or we can choose to just get by.  Why am I saying this?  Aftter all, you already know this, right?

I read a blog earlier today about the lenient conditions under which you can become a real estate agent and computercommented about how that holds true to many industries, not just real estate.  As a Virtual Assistant, I didn't have to take any classes, I didn't have to get any specific certifications, I didn't have to do anything except make sure my internet connection worked and make sure that I knew how to use my computer.  Let's face it.  Anyone with a computer and basic administrative skills can decide they are going to be a Virtual Assitant these days (and they have).  The same seems to hold true for real estate agents.  Anyone can decide to take the course, take the test, and become a licensed real estate agent.

leotardsBut is that all there is to it?

Who wants to just get by?  Who wants to be mediocre?  Who wants to blend in with the rest of the crowd?  I don't know about you, but I prefer to stick out - even if just a little.  I prefer to have people point at me.  I prefer to have people notice my purple stretch pants and zebra striped leotard.  (Just kidding - I typically wear pajamas or jeans!)  In order to do that, I do have to put forth some effort.  I do have to take some classes, I do have to get some certifications.  And, somewhere along the way, I decided that wasn't enough to make me stand out in the crowd. So, I started looking for other ways to get people to notice my purple leotards.  Blogging, networking, and referring were all good ways to do this.

What are you doing to make people notice your purple stretch pants and your zebra striped leotards?  Are you going the extra mile to make yourself the best Virtual Assistant, Real Estate Agent, Mortgage Broker, Stager, __________ (fill in the blank) that you can be?  No?  Why not?  Now is the perfect opportunity for you to say it loud and be proud!

Look at My Purple Stretch Pants and my Zebra Striped Leotards!!

NAAAAAAAACHOOOOOO! Like Nacho, there, my stretch pants are a baby blue with red knee patches.

You're so right. Even someone who DID only want to be mediocre just wouldn't survive the market downturn. Only the strong survive, despite the rumors of it being 'easy'.

Joey - That's exactly the problem!  Too many people get into my industry and yours thinking this is something "easy" they can do to make some money.  But it takes dedication, professionalism, and skill.  Thanks for stopping by!
