What is Memorial Day?  According to Wikipedia the definition of Memorial Day is defined as:

me·mo·ri·al day

Noun
  1. A day, the last Monday in May, on which those who died in active military service are remembered.
  2. (in the Southern states) Any of various days (esp. the fourth Monday in April) for similar remembrances.

Many people set aside this day as an indicator that summer has begun.  So, to kick off my participation in the Get Ready for the Summer Season Contest I have dedicated my first post as the "official beginning of summer" MEMORIAL DAY.

Really, it should not be forgotten as to why we have Memorial Day.  This date is special and should be reserved for what it really means.  My grandfather and father both served in the Military and are both buried at Fort Logan National Cemetery.

My grandfather was certainly my hero in many ways, so this day of remembrance is important to me. I am thankful for all the men and women who have served our country and fought for all of us here at home.

For those looking to celebrate that momentum "beginning of summer" concept of Memorial Day, Denver certainly has you covered with a line-up of special events.  One of my favorite websites that I check often, and even subscribe to gives us a look at all the events Denver has to offer.   If you are looking at Memorial Day events in particular you'll find many options including:

  • May 25th Downtown will host a Memorial Day Parade to honor those who lost their lives serving our country. This starts at 11:30 am at the Civic Center Park and is FREE.

  • Saturday May 25th is also Denver Day of Rock  The performance areas will be along the 16th Street Mall, Denver’s mile-long pedestrian promenade, making it easy to roam from act to act. Food and beer gardens will be set up throughout downtown for the event, with free music rocking the city from 2:30 to 9:30 p.m.

  • If you love the arts, Downtown Arts Festival may be the place you want to visit.  This event will feature over 150 local artists.  I went to this event 5 years ago and had a wonderful time.  I have a piece of art in my bedroom from this festival and it is one of my favorite pieces.

  • Lastly, if you're really looking to kick off your summer - WATER WORLD opens Memorial Day weekend.  Hopefully our weather will catch up for the season.

Coming into summer also kicks off the Real Estate Hot season and if  you're looking for information on buying, selling or investing into Real Estate, my partner Steve and I look forward to helping with you needs. You can search for homes directly on our website.

Wherever Memorial Day finds you - please be safe and remember to thank those in our Military and remember those we've lost.
