Palo Duro Canyon was opened on July 4, 1934 and the Civilian Conservation Corps constructed most of the building and roads that are still being used today. There is over 29000 acres of scenic beauty for your entire family to enjoy. It is 120 miles long and 20 miles wide! It costs $5/ person and children 12 and under are free. They have 4 different camping areas for overnight stays which include the backpack camping site. This site cost $12 for 4 people and it is a 30 minute hike to this site. You can not have any open fires at this location. There is also an equestrian site where you can bring your horses along. Each site is allotted 8 horses and/or people. The cost for this site is also $12.00. There are 2 areas for the primitive camping sites. Each camping area has a fire ring, table and shaded area to sit at. Eight people are permitted at each site and costs $12.00. These sites do not have restroom or showers so you would have to drive to the nearest ones. Then there is the electrical camp loops which offer 50 amp outlets and only eight people are allowed on each site and 3 vehicles which include your trailer, car, etc. There is water, shower and bath rooms and paved parking areas in these loops. Palo Duro Canyon also offers 2 cabins if you don't want to sleep in a tent, at $110 per night plus entrance fees. These cabins do have heating and air conditioning but you may not cook inside them. They have bath room and showers. Each cabin has a queen size bed and one has a day bed with a pull out and the other one has bunk beds. Only four people max to each cabin. Check in is 3 pm and check out is 11 am the next day. Bring your family for some hiking, playing at the playground, bike riding, horseback riding, site seeing, play in the creek, and so much more!!!
