Sunset Cliffs homes are primarily single family houses.  The houses on Sunset Cliffs Blvd., the long street that winds along the coastline, are mostly large houses (estate type) with very spacious lots.  Houses a block or so off the ocean tend to be a bit smaller but still quite large for the area.  Some houses date back to the early 1900s, but most were built in the 1950s to the 1980s.  Since this is such a highly desirable area, many have been remodeled over the past few years.  Most of the houses are custom built, or since they have been dramatically renovated, they now look like custom homes.  There are a few condo complexes in Sunset Cliffs.  Some of the condo homes have awesome ocean views too!  Click link to view Point Loma Real Estate and Community Page for information on the entire Point Loma Peninsula.

I love the landscaping so many Sunset Cliffs homeowners have.  The community is right on the ocean so many residents take advantage of this and grow San Diego Coastal type plants.  The different colors and textures are spectacular.  Palm trees are probably not native to the area, but they look so distinctive and lovely, especially with the backdrop of the Pacific Ocean and beautiful houses.  You can see the native flora and fauna at the 68 acre Sunset Cliffs Natural Park at the south end of the neighborhood.  Here is the site for the Sunset Cliffs Park, the history is pretty fascinating!

Architecture is quite varied in the Sunset Cliffs neighborhood.  The style you most often see is the Spanish or Santa Barbara style.  You also see Beach Bungalow, Craftsman, Modern Beachy and traditional Ranch style.  Not a cookie-cutter neighborhood.

Schools:  Sunset Cliffs is just north of Point Loma Nazarene College.  Other colleges nearby are University of San Diego, University of California San Diego (La Jolla) and San Diego State University.  There is a private elementary school in Sunset Cliffs, Warren-Walker, and a public elementary Sunset View Elementary, Silvergate Elementary is close by too.  Middle school is Dana Middle, junior high is Correia or High Tech, and high school is Point Loma High or High Tech High.  The public school system here is San Diego Unified.
