curb appeal

If you are selling your home, one of the most important items to consider to make it attractive is curb appeal.  This first impression can make it or break it when homebuyers are coming to view houses.    We surely don’t look at our own home the way others do, so start by thinking like a buyer.  To get a fresh perspective, park across the street and look at your home in the morning and again in the evening.  This will give you two perspectives on how your home looks to you.

First question to ask yourself – what are the best exterior features of the home?  Enhance these features.  If you have a great front door, clean it up and polish it.  Great landscaping is what you have, enhance it in the evening or at night with some nice lighting.  Second question – what are the worst exterior features of the home?   How can I improve these or minimize these?  If the paint is faded, touch it up or repaint.  If you have dingy siding or a dirty driveway, pressure washing will usually clean this up.  Clean up your yard by mowing and taking care of weeds.  Plant some colorful flowers – even if they are in pots and trim trees and bushes away from the home.

Consider your back yard too.  Potential buyers will do what they can to see the back yard from the street.  Put away garden tools, mow the lawn, put children’s toys away.  This will increase the curb appeal of your home during the drive by process too.  Making your home stand out to potential buyers does not always cost a lot of money.  These items are budget friendly and can make a world of difference.
