Where’d everybody go?

There was an interesting article on the front page of Yahoo! this morning. It was discussing the different states and whether people were moving into or leaving certain states. It looking like in the south North Carolina was where a lot of people are migrating to and out West, Oregon was a popular state to move to.

I thought this article might bring up some interesting conversation. When we list a home we obviously ask them where they are moving to. The overwhelming answer is North Carolina or Tennessee. We seem to get a lot of people moving from the states of  New York, New Jersey, and Pennsylvania. Looks like all of these states have a higher "outbound" rate.

This brings me to my question. What state are you from and where are people coming from that are moving to your state and when they are selling where are they going to?

Hello Roxanne!  It seems in my Atlanta market, folks are migrating from Florida.  You know the whole tax and ins thing.  Then we have people leaving to Charlotte.  A few major Atlanta companies were purchased and relocated there.

As Marc pointed out his is post... In FLorida we are seeing record numbers of folks moving to Tennessee OUT of Florida...due in part to the rise in cost of living which is NOT comparable to the CUT in wages one will earn when they move here.

In my part of Florida, people move to the Carolinas, or back to wherever their families are. Lots come from the northeast, and lately we've seen many from California and some from the Seattle area.

I'm a REALTOR® in Texas. Real Estate is stronger here than it ever has been. We have been getting a steady flow of both Investors and folks Relocating for about 5 years now and expect that trend to continue at least another 5 years. Most are coming in from Florida and California. The ones from California are fed up with the cost of living, the political and social issues etc. The ones coming from Florida are saying the cost of living as well as the weather issues of recent years. All are amazed at the quality of living here.
