I have a comfort level with technology, but that is not true of many of my clients. I try to match my communications approach to each client's comfort level.
Rebecca, I was not raised with computers but decided to grab on to technology rather than get left in the dust. That and I couldn't stand that my children were so much farther along technologically than I was. I am amazed at the number of agents my age or even younger that just don't want to grab on though.
Rebecca, I just love this technology. I have much to learn but when I open my notebook it's such an experience. Granted when we open a book we are taken to a different world, but with a computer we are open to worlds of worlds. I am enjoying your writings. Thank you and keep it up. Deb
Rebecca- It is hard for the 2 or 3 generations to come together in ideas and technology. Remember that judging never helps a situation, but teaching does :) nAnd sometimes we just have to accept things for how they are.....
Danny- That is a great movie, isn't it. And both actors have done extremely well since then.
Rosario- It is important to work with your clients at their pace. When it comes to marketing, however, this is where we need to guide the clients above what they might understand.
Rich- Music is food for the soul, isn't it? I too, try to stay up on technology, I don't consider myself a guru, but I do understand the importance. And plus, some of it just makes my life easier.
Marchel- I know. And I just heard a stat that the avg. Myspace user is actually 35 years old. The age group that is growing on Myspace is 50 or older. There can't be any doubt that the Internet is important.
Deb- Thank you for your kind words. I like being able to open my laptop too and read all sorts of things, though I admit if it is a long story or piece, I will print it and read it offline.
Kathy- True enough. The one thing I have to say though, is that in some cases, accepting things can be more than difficult if the acceptance on the other end keeps from getting things accomplished. That being said, I do know about learning curves. I am a Gen X'er and while many may confuse and believe we all came with a cell phone attached to our umbilical cord, quite the opposite. Our word processor when I was growing up was a Texas Instruments computer. We had maybe one computer lab at school, even in high school, and that was only for school papers. In High school, we went to the public library to type up our papers, if we didn't finish at school. I was introduced to the Internet in small chunks. First email, then browsing, than a curiosity and necessity took over, and here I am.
One of the things that made it easier was that I was willing to learn and ask from those younger and more knowledgeable than me. It could've been reverse, it could've been those older and more knowledgeable, this is just the way it played out in my situation. Were there some embarrassing moments and questions, sure there were, but nothing earth shattering, and I have yet to blow up a computer.
Rebecca-I can understand what you're saying about technology for your generation.....I remember my daughter (Gen X) learning to use the computer. I was so fascinated with the things she could do.....especially with research. Then one day I don't know what happened but I was so far ahead of her it was like she had never touched a computer. I think patience and perseverance is what helped me....I wanted to learn, and she didn't make the time. So, it's not age, it's mentality :)
I learned from those much younger than me, and even now my Granddaughter is sharing what she learns with me, and I share what I know with her.....there is alot we all can learn from each other. And as you said we all make mistakes.....hey I didn't back up my computer and blew up the motherboard.....oops there went all my files :) But hey, life went on......:)
