Here is another post to my “Coming Soon” segments on “Foodie” Friday. This week, I’d like to introduce you to a restaurant coming to downtown Austin whose name takes on a fabric flare and has been on Open Table’s Top 100 Hotspot Restaurants list.
SEARSUCKER

Celebrity chef Brian Malarkey and The Enlightened Hospitality Group have announced that Searsucker will be opening in early summer in the Warehouse District downtown. It’s going to be a place where you can sit back in a relaxed atmosphere, enjoy the downtown scenery and dine on fabulous food. There will be an open air kitchen (becoming more and more popular); the décor will have a rustic and modern look with comfy sofas in the middle of the dining area where you can sip and socialize. In the Austin dining scene, this will be the kind of place where you will want to ‘come early and stay awhile’. By the way, the fabric flare in the name is a trademark of all of the restaurants within their group: Burlap, Gingham, Gabardine and Herringbone!
As far as the food is concerned, no menu is available yet, but they will be serving New American Classics with an Austin twist. Seasonal ingredients will shine and among the classics they’ll be serving will be their Surf & Turf, Mussels and Brussel Sprouts. To whet your appetite and give you an idea of the style food that Searsucker is famous for, here is a sampling of their Scottsdale, AZ restaurant: On the small menu: Triple cheese toast with tomato-tarragon soup and duck fat fries with tomato jam. The seafood menu has Swordfish “drunken” with drunken cherries and smoked almonds, Mahi “tnt” with horseradish, crab and chimichurri and from the farm menu: Pork “butt” with whiskey apples, bacon and onions and Duck x 3 with beans and orange. The sweets menu shows the “King” sundae with peanut butter cup ice cream, bacon honey caramel, bananas and whipped cream or the Rum and Coke which is rum cake with coke mousse and lime.
I’m looking forward to trying this delicious new addition to the Austin downtown food scene.
