Everyone has heard it - I hope:
"There is no such thing as bad weather,
just bad clothing."
Are you ready for the next storm?
How can we even think about that - we are still in the middle of the FIRST one!
Are you taking notes and making a list of what you need for the next on?
Better check your boots for leaks - and get an extra set of gloves.
How you survive anything is based on two things:
How prepared are you?
How do you adapt?
Notice there is no end to that cycle of action.
The ability of any professional to survive a downturn
in any industry is based on how much they know and how nimble they are.
All Realtors have to prepare themselves continuously with knowledge, skills and resources
to be able to act on what they know.
Or walk into a blizzard in Bermudas.
Stay warm,
Steve

20 Comments on Are you wearing Bermuda shorts in a blizzard?

Obeoman, Actually in College Station Texas at Texas A&M University, the girls wear shorts all year round even when they have to wear a jacket and are freezing.  Doesn't make since to me but I'm not 20 years old anymore...ha.

License renewals will be down this year, and licensing schools are laying off. However, after 30 years you can't show me any different market conditions that I haven't seen.

Children still graduated from college, and I never had to live on Lower Wacker Drive (Its a Chicago thing).

Steve

Do you think we have enough snow yet? It would not be the first time I had shorts on in a blizzard.

However, I am not coming back from Costa Rica on a plane for a while. Although I wish I was.

Great post, and picture.

Sincerely

Tom Braatz

Steve, Yesterday morning we saw snowboarders and skiers heading for the slopes in shorts!  Wad-r-ya-crazy??!!

Wow, that is a great analogy,

Steve, thanks for all you do!     Laurie

Steve, I know what I've got to say really isn't exactly on the subject, but I wear shorts year around, too.  In fact I really don't like the feel of long pants. I note that Kay says they dress like that in College Station, Texas.

The secret is simple.  Keep your chest and arms warm, and the rest of you thinks its warm, too.

That out of the way, your analogy is not only an interesting one but a good one as well.

Kay,

..Around here the latest craze down on campus is pajamas 24-7.

Plaid.

What the heck is wrong with bell bottoms?

David,,

Being from the Midwest and having been to Chicago more than once, I uderstand the Lower Wacker Dr. thing.

You have probably already written the book on survival in real estate - where can I get it?

Tom,

On no - not nearly enough snow...more, bring it on - it makes my daydreams of Bonita Beach sooooo much more real...!

Actually, there is more snow onthe way Tuesday, as we read here. The other two thngs we talk about in the midwest after real estate: surviving winter and gas mileage.

Enjoy Costa Rica while you can - the brats are all still frozen here!

Bill,

The whole body core temprature temperature thing- I prefer overall application of sunlight, augemented by a nice cold margarita.

Thanks for pointing out analogies are interesting. I always wondered about Bermuda shorts-like, what do they do with the other half?

Great psot! You are right that we should always be looking ahead at how we will adapt and at the past for lessons on how we should have to help us adapt in the future. Thanks!

Jenniffer!

Thanks for stopping by - lessons from the past are great teachers - if you remember to remember them!

Some have been through blizzards before and skied from peak to base

Some have only sailed the sun drenched waters and left none in their wake

For the real estate days of yesterday were filled with opportunity

The buyers were plenty, the sellers were scarce, and there were forests of money filled trees

The true professionals will survive these wintery weather days

They know how to shovel their way to success and the path to sunny summer days

Hi Steve,

I'm back, no worries w/your mouse problem, I think I like this version better. Counting in at @ -10 degrees in wonderful balmy lake geneva, wi and expecting 3-8 inches of snow on Tuesday- Yahoo!!!!

Steve, Both you and Rebecca are wonderful with words. We don't have too many folks here in Denver in shorts, but we do have lots of bicyclists that ride in blizzards. Does that count?

02/10/2008 03:12 PM by Jennifer Steck- Denver Real Estate (Rocky Mountain Homescapes, Keller Williams, Denver Colorado)

Ah, Jennifer - there was just a major debate over in Madison about why people ride their bikes in the winter.

The general consensus was that they should all be given hi-viz vests, beacons and imbedded GPS chips in case they hit a snowdrift and get buried.
