NAR - Our Leadership is driving us off a cliff!

Recently Inman News has been doing some good informative posts that are flying under the radar with many Realtors®.  WeNAR, really NEED to start paying attention to what NAR is doing and speak our piece - whichever way you feel on some of these topics.  Do not let NAR drive the bus off a cliff!

There are a few topics that I am going to roll into one here - one post mentions that NAR asked membership (anyone you know of participate???) on what's the craziest idea that you think would work?  The answer - take back Realtor.com!  Now in itself, that would be a great idea as I feel NAR really dropped the ball on this.  But now, Realtor.com is just a clamity that I don't think can be salvaged.  Think of a car wreck and the car is just too old & antiquated to repair!   Is is really worth the effort or has Trulia & Zillow overtaken it totally?

Can Realtor.com be a 'comeback kid'?

The disaster called the Realtors Property Resource (RPR) - this national database is not even known by most of you.  You pay your dues for this and yet I would say that 99% of you do not know that NAR has created a NATIONAL MLS DATABASE.  The more post comments I read in varying places makes me realize that very few have a clue that this has been up & functional for years now.

It is currently going to be 'in the hole' for the next 3 years according to recent reports. Where do you think the short fall is going to come from?

Best guess - your wallet!

Please get on some of these national forums and make your opinions & thoughts known.

Realtor.com launches rental app - Don't you think there should have been one already?

Lyn, I rarely visit Realtor.com as the information tends not to be 'real-time'. If NAR thinks the national MLS will be any more successful, they need to develop a better updating system before, as you say....driving off a cliff. Thanks!

I uses RPR.  It's great.  What's the problem with it besides a start-up shortfall?

Brad:  Nothing wrong with it except it's not profitable.  Why should I pay for a failed MLS?  I think it actually is a great idea but they have never really tried to advertise it/sell it's benefits.  I think they thought it would just 'sell itself'.  Others have done a better job at marketing like CoreLogic, etc.  Besides, from what I read about it last year there is a LO by trade at the helm.  Makes sense to me to have a LO right?

Norman: Great example is that more than 1/2 the membership doesn't know of RPR's existance - why?  Bad promoting, bad planning.  I can't figure out a real reason for me to actually use it.  It's been talked up to banks, etc with no results either.

My own MLS does not like RPR & how the interaction between our listings & the rights we have to give up.  My MLS will not cooperate with it.  Surprise!  What about yours?  Probably is being discussed & they've said no.

Lyn, this is all new news to me. I know that doesn't shock you, I'm in the 99%. I'll have to get more involved. Thank you for bringing this to our attention.

Lyn:  JMO, but agents have access to a bigger potentially more beneficial organization than we Lenders do.  As you point out, the potential is only there if agents actually participate and utilize the organization and their voices.  We Lenders really don't have any voice ...

I hope many read this and take heed ...

NAR never ceases to make me scratch my head and wonder where my membership money goes.   Hadn't ever heard of RPR until now.

Realtor.com sold us out as soon as they let 2nd and 3rd party sites use our information.  These sites have stolen our leads ever since.

Connie:  Now you know. Isn't that a TV commercial?

Gene:  I understand what you mean with realtors having an organization but I'm not always sure it is working in our benefit.

Chris Ann:  RPR has been flying under the radar for years now. How can it be profitable if no one knows it exists? Ask why more realtors don't know about it?  Great PR right?

Bill:  Yes dear.  You are correct.

Hope to talk soon ... stay cool and safe ...

I suggested your post, since it is a good rally cry.  As far as leadership from NAR . . . we have leadership?!?  Could have fooled me.
