Green Technology for the Future Connecticut Home.
Green Homes in the future will be automated and will communicate with utility providers to allow for better management and use of power supplies. Already we see this with appliances that communicate with the manufacture, smart thermostats that learn your daily routine and energy monitoring devices.
Along with that there are new and innovated devices coming out this year and in the coming years that will change the way we live and use energy.
Here are some of the examples of what is available today and in the near future:
The Meter Plug ~ is a plug that measures your consumption of energy and sends it to your smart phone as an app displaying your real costs.
The Nest Thermostat ~ learns your schedule, your energy plan, the temperature you like, when your home or away, how efficient your furnace and more.
GE Smart Appliance ~ GE Home Management System when used with a smart meter and brings the advantage of the Smart Grid into your home.
Hydrogen & Fuel Cells ~ Neighborhood and home fuel cells along with hydrogen fueling stations are in R&R now, currently being used in commercial applications globally.
IBM Battery 500 ~ currently electric cars can travel about 100 miles on today’s Lithium-ion battery technology, IBM Battery 500 project is working on a technology that is expected to improve energy density 10 fold. Along with improving car traveling distance this technology could be used nationwide as an electricity storage source for renewable energy such as solar, wind, hydro along with storage of excess energy to be used during peak demand periods.
