As is often the case, Lenn has some good advice for the agent who wants to succeed.

Once you get your license, do you continue to absorb all the training that you can, or do you do just enough to keep your license?

I know the choice taken by those who want to excell...

ARE NEW REAL ESTATE AGENTS PREPARED? WHAT ABOUT POST LICENSE TRAINING?

REAL ESTATE SCHOOL, POST LICENSE TRAINING, POST LICENSE EDUCATION, MENTORS, etc.  All steps that new agents experience when in the first stages of establishing themselves in the real estate industry.

This post is inspired by Roger Mucci's interesting post this morning describing day two of training for his new job.  Roger will be selling furniture and, by all accounts, is receiving very valuable training.

It would be impossible not to compare the intensity of the training to sell furniture Roger is getting in two homes in handdays on the job.   Many new licensees with a new broker don't experience such detailed training to sell real estate.

POST LICENSE TRAINING.  Of course new licensees have just completed the pre-licensing course of instruction of 60 plus hours.  However, the classroom training is often specifically focused on passing the test for their license.  I know from years of experience trough hiring and training new licensees that they are not prepared to sell real estate when just out of real estate school.

When I received my license many years ago, my first experience was 3 weeks of intensive classroom training.  Most new agents today are not that fortunate.  Some Associations offer and often require Post License Training of up to 60 or more additional hours of training.  However, this training is only going to benefit REALTORS®.  Not all agents are REALTORS®.  States do require Continuing Education and in some state, post license training.  The NAR provides this training.

BROKER RESPONSIBILITY.  We often read ActiveRain posts about serious mistakes by agents representing buyers and sellers.  My thought is often that it's a failure of the broker's responsibility to continue to train their agents and make themselves available.   I'm willing to bet that Roger's employer will always be available for questions.

CONTINUING EDUCATION.  Of course, all licensees, agents and brokers, must also complete XXX hours of Continuing Education to renew their license every year, two years or whatever the requirements for their state.

Roger is fortunate that he'll be well prepared to represent his employer, his company and his buyers.  I'm  enjoying reading about his training adventure.
