Every year Anacortes hosts an Annual Garden Art Fair in the "downtown" area.
This year’s event at the Depot showed Yard art and container gardens, Plants, bulbs and organic supplies were on sale as well. Various groups gave gardening demonstrations on the main stage of the Depot through the afternoon, including representatives from Roosengarde, the famous Tulip farm, with a tulip presentation.
Your own intrepid reporter had a fun but cold afternoon interviewing folks at their booths and checking out all of the cool garden art and plants. The food court was a welcome break to warm up on a cold windy day. My friend Ros came with me and she is now a star of the video.
The festivities continued on Saturday with a demonstration by Northwest Woodturners at noon on the main stage. In the morning the Tri-Valley Rose Society was in the Depot with educational displays and demonstrations, and Viva Farms were inside in the afternoon.
Food vendors set up within and outside the Depot with the Beer garden a favorite with most folks. Although the weather was more suited to warm drinks and hot food.
In years past, the Garden Art Fair was a fundraiser for the Anacortes Arts Foundation and the Depot Arts Center. This is the first year the Parks Department has sponsored the event. Admission was free, but some funds were raised through vendors’ fees. The proceeds will go to the Anacortes Arts Commission. Many people attended and despite the cool, windy and sometimes rainy weather all had a great time.
