What’s the future for eye-candy flips?

We’ve all seen plenty of them...the same granite countertops, the same Home Depot carpeting, the same shades of paint....even here in La Mesa where homes have very diverse styles, walk through a few flips and they all look practically the same.

I predict in about 5 years, a large percentage of eye-candy flips will be screaming for new plumbing, new electric and new roofs. The high ticket items are ignored, while flippers create cookie cutter clones. The good news is, the freshened up exterior painting and colorful landscaping can give a much needed facelift to a block or a community.

If you’re a buyer, just appreciate the eye candy for what it is. Make sure your home inspector takes a really close look at the condition of the most expensive-to-fix components, and if the plumbing, roof and electric is still vintage, start setting aside a few hundred a month for the inevitable repairs or replacement.

Barb, I like the term "eye candy flips."  They actually sway quite a few buyers who are only interested in having the latest and greatest finish-out.

Yes, we all like that "new car smell"...it's up to us to inject a little logic into the emotions of home purchasing

Sadly, way to many people spruce a place up but don't really fix the problems
