The true definition of Sometimers is "sporadic memory loss and brain flatulence". The Real Estate business is so detailed and crossing every T and dotting every i is critical for each and every deal. I do a pretty darned good job of keeping everything straight for my business. I wonder if it's possible to think too much about the business? Like maybe the brain gets too full? Or maybe multi-tasking capabilities are lost once we hit a certain age?

If you see yourself in any of these symptoms you may be showing signs of Sometimers.

Various symptoms of Sometimers.

You pick up the phone to call a client. As the phone rings you go to another thought. The client answers. You then begin to grapple with the question: "who did I just call?"  Sometimes it comes to you and sometimes it doesn't!

If you wear glasses for reading you are very susceptible to Sometimers. Multiple symptoms can be found concerning reading glasses. You begin to look for them to read something. You had them a minute ago but now they're gone. You walk the house or the office looking for them. Where could you have put them? You look some more. You check your pockets, purse, desk, and every corner. Finally you take a bathroom break and as you are washing your hands you see them on your head. Sometimes. Other times you find them on your collar. Occasionally, you will find them where you thought you left them but you didn't see them because you didn't have your glasses.

You pick up your purse or wallet, files, something to drink and head to the car to meet with your customers. You get out to the car but....no keys. You fumble through your pockets, purse, files yet you find nothing. You run back into the office to look for them screaming, "help, I've lost my keys" to all that will listen. As you are putting down your armful of stuff you find your keys!! There they are! Hanging off your finger in the hand that is holding the drink! Sometimes you embarrass even yourself.

Stress can exacerbate your symptoms. Often caused by House Showings. One of your main symptoms is recognizable by losing "the" key. You know, the one that belongs to the owners of the house you're showing? "Yikes!" You had it in your hand but now it's gone. It could be anywhere. Sometimes you find it. Sometimes you don't. Try checking the door.

You find that remembering names isn't as easy as it use to be. You just shook her hand and you begin to tell her something and "poof" it's gone. Sometimes you just have to ask again.

You wrote down the potential sellers name on one of your own business cards. They want you to contact them for an appointment. You place the card in a "special place" so you won't forget where it is. Sometimes you forget the "special place".

You write out the check but forget to sign it!! Sometimes you actually forget!

At the end of a very hard day you stop at a grocery store to go in and get that item you were suppose to remember. And, if you could think of what it was it would be easier. Sometimes you do remember it but after you check out you just can't find the car.

I know there are others but I can't remember them right now...

                                                                              What were we talking about?

and Proud of it!   Deb

Deb... Too funny, but too true. Great point!  Thanks for making me think outsidethebox!   Growing up we would call certain friends "sometimey". Same meaning really. Thanks

I think I have mild Sometimers myself.  I have the phone thing happen almost daily (who am I calling again?).  That one always makes me a little panicky when they actually answer and I don't know who I'm talking to, so I just say, "Hey, this is Jason!" which gives me an extra second to figure it out while they are greeting me back.

DEB - I had a great comment all prepared for you.  I mean the kind of comment that you'd share with other people because it was so good.  For the life of me, I can't remember what I was going to say. (LOL)  This is a great post.  It makes me feel better that others share this affliction with me.

Sometimes it (sometimers) can be contageous and can be passed through the Internet.  I do know those grocery store and client telephone symptoms well . :-)

Deb, it often amazes me how I can remember the details of a real estate closing from 19 years ago, or a sales call from 4 years ago, but I can go to my basement to start laundry and bring up a carton of juice from my second fridge and end up coming upstairs empty handed going hmm... I think I just forgot something.  And that is just one tip of the iceberg.

Part of it is as we get older and part of it is, heck, we are just so darn busy:-)

I definitely have "sometimers".  It is escalating to "you-didn't-tell-me-that-itis".  It has gotten to the point where I write everything down and at work I have people e-mail me information, not just tell me.  I have even e-mailed myself so that I remember something from the morning for that same evening!

Matt, CRAFT moments are now in my vocabulary. How funny. As long as I don't forget!

Vanessa, Are you going to let Melissa get away with that? Or, have you forgotten about it? So far I've learned that you use to waitress and you were a nurse. Could there be a story there? :-)

Melissa, You didn't admit to anything! Is is just us old timers that have sometimers?

Christina, Sometimey? Smiley once in a whiley? This could work. You're way too young to worry with such.

Jason, I'm so glad to hear this happens to other people!! The phone thing really bothers me. You would think I could keep my mind on one thing for 30 seconds but No.

Adam, It's a good thing we all blog. We can later go back and read about ourselves!

So Trey, that's where I'm getting it? Viruses, worms and sometimers.

Rebecca, Thank you! A story from you about the same thing I'm sure I've done really helps the confidence level!

Kathy, I, on a great occasion, find a tich of that itis myself. I like to think I just wasn't listening in the first place! That works for me now.

Many happy thoughts to you,

P.S.  Thank you for reminding me that I'm losing it!

I have been diagnosed with sometimers and a lot of CRS too.  It is a bad combination.  I forget who I am calling all of the time.  It is a sign of stress and business overload.  The plus side is that we are busy enough to have sometimers.

Audrey June! I was going to ask what CRS was but Kathy came along and explained it! CRS works for me too. Yes, I would like to think it's just stress...

Judi, good luck with that man!! If my husband has this problem I haven't noticed or I forget. Deb

Teri, I'm so sorry. Although I wondered if anyone else out there was experiencing this! It's just not fun!

Kathy, I'm glad you can laugh about it. I try. I wish I could say I was making those things up...but no.

I've found my glasses on top of my head so many times, you'd think it would be the first place I look instead of the last.

You ever notice you always find things in the last place you look?
Like you'd keep looking after you found it!

I've got so much stuff put up in my special places.  I'd be rich if I could just remember where those special places are!

Very funny stuff Deb. I''m not there yet, but as I approach my 48th Birthday next month I am noticing some changes. My memory used to be incredibly sharp and compared to most it still is, but I am finding now that all appointments MUST be written down with alarms to remind me of them! I also used to have an incredible memory for telephone numbers. I blame cell phones and speed dialing for that declining power!

Deb:  After reading your "Why you Do What you Do" blog, I checked you out a little further and found this one.  Oh how I can relate to this too!!!  Around here we also call it CRS (Can't Remember S***) Syndrome.  Awhile ago I wrote a check.  I remembered to sign it but I dated it 1978.  I don't remember but it must have been a good year for something!?!  With the hectic schedules Realtors have I'm beginning to think "Sometimers" or "CRS Syndrome" is just a defense mechanism to keep us in check.  Another great post.  I just subscribed.  Thanks.

Debra...  Thank you for the post...(you made my mission easy, little gem!)  Now, that I've gotten over the trauma of puttin' down a few words (always a struggle for me), I can comment on your fabulous post...

Yes, I have been formally diagnosed with Sometimers...

I would love to share some of my "moments" with you but, I can't seem to recall any...  Never mind...doesn't matter.  So, like I was saying, ummm...who are you, again?

6:22pm • #41

DEBRA, I KNOW WHAT YOU ARE TALKING ABOUT.  I OBSESS ON THINGS THAT NEED TO BE DONE AND CAN'T GET DONE FOR ONE REASON OR ANOTHER.  SO I COULD DEFINITELY BE CLASSIFIED AS A "SOMETIMER" - I WAS PARTICULARLY AMUSED BY YOUR DESCRIPTION OF THE CLUMSINESS THAT SOMETIMES AFFLICTS US AS WE ARE OUT SHOWING PROPERTY.  DROP THE GLASSES, LOSE THE KEYS, FORGET WHERE YOU SET DOWN THE KEYSAFE INSERT, SET THE OL'  CLIPBOARD DOWN SOMEWHERE IN THE HOUSE AND CAN'T FIND IT - ETC. ETC. ETC.  BEEN THERE DONE THAT - ALL YOU CAN DO IS LAUGH AT YOURSELF AND HOPE YOUR CLIENTS DON'T THINK YOU ARE A COMPLETE BLITHERING IDIOT!

Hi Marti, Don't you hate when that happens? I think the human brain seems to kick out extra data that seems insignificant to it. I know mine does. I can tell you the price and square footage of every house in our inventory but one day a lady at the workout spa asked me my age. I went blank. Age?
