He hit the nail on the head . . . a nail that most people avoid like the plague . . . in today’s blog post:

Let’s start with “sorry”

How do YOU handle sticky situations?

When you hear the phone ring and see “THAT PERSON’s” number on the caller ID and you KNOW why he is calling . . . He’s ANGRY, and he wants someone to PAY . . . DAMMIT!

Seth says:

“It’s not easy being on the receiving end of a days’-long parade of blame, but no one said it was easy. We asked you to do it because you’re good and because it’s important, not because it’s fun.”

Don’t dodge it!

Sticking your head in the sand won’t make it go away.

In fact, avoiding THAT conversation is just as bad (if not worse) as answering the phone in a cussing rage.

There’s only ONE thing to do if you value what matters the most – your relationship with that person (Personal and/or business) . . .

do as Seth suggests and stand in the fire.

Be open to whatever comes at you without judgement.

INVITE whatever feelings/emotions there are to surface.

and

LISTEN!

Then do as Stephen Covey always said:

“Seek to Understand”

THEN

Respond

Don’t REACT!

Don’t back-peddle or argue or justify . . .

Unless, of course, you don’t think it’s important.

I ain’t no bettin’ man, but if I were I’d guess that by the sheer nature of the fact you’re dreading the call . . . It’s important!
