Queen City is for class.
The first time I met Sophie Charlotte of Mecklenburg-Strelitz (pictured) was in stone just outside of the arrival gates at Charlotte, NC's international airport; she's surrounded by a fountain and stands with the evermost sophistication, and I thought then as I do now, "This must be a place of class to honor a lady like her." The queen consort was a decorated patroness of the arts, the wife of King George III of England, and as a testiment to her strength, bore 15 children. Such a legacy lives on today. Charlotte continues to thrive in more ways than one. Have you visited her rich neighborhoods?
Hornet's Nest is for rebellion.
Residents of Charlotte are people of integrity, value, and are not afraid to engage in chances to prove their virtues and deeply-held beliefs, even if that meant going against the masses and committing high treason. The first and most prominent example of this was during the American Revolutionary War. The infamous General Cornwallis and his loyal Redcoat regiment had occupied the city under British rule, but the people rose up to defend its independence and drove him well beyond the boundary (pictured). In his own words, he later wrote, "Charlotte was a hornet's nest of rebellion." Touche, Sir. Touche. We're outspoken and unashamed!
Home of NASCAR is for speed.
While we're a City with a reputation for nobility and standing up to the big guy, there's no shortage of entertainment either! We're home to the NASCAR Hall of Fame, Charlotte Motor Speedway (pictured), the largest group of racing teams in the sport, and it doesn't even stop there. The City is stock full of various pit stops, from art galleries to music venues to sport arenas and so on and so forth. With all of the older and developing opportunities for family fun and nightlife alike, Charlotte is certainly not showing any signs of slowing down. Start your engines and race to your enjoyment!
Gem of the South is for beauty.
But, to me, the most striking reason I fell in love with Charlotte was because of her irresistible appeal. The checkered flags wave for her luscious trees, Smoky Mountain fervor, flower varieties, and waterways like Lake Norman (pictured); we're also a short distance to the Atlantic shoreline. The natural possibilities are endless here, and once you've seen and touched the Gem of the South, there's no going back. Alas, if you're aren't one of my neighbors yet, get in touch with me. I can offer plenty of rationality on why you should re-consider.
After all, it's the word of a Yankee who went Dixie.
To be continued, friends. - ELI
