Memorial Day
a Day of Remembering
This Monday, May 27, 2013, is Memorial Day. It is a day to remember all our fallen heroes, men and women alike, that have fought to preserve the freedom that we so richly live. And as we remember and honor those brave men and women, we must also keep in mind their families; the many mothers and fathers, sisters and brothers, grandparents, aunts and uncles, cousins, spouses and children who lost their loved ones as they defended the very freedom that we enjoy today. Because, as their lives were taken away, so were pieces of the hearts and spirits of their families.
We owe a lot to those killed in battle for our safety and liberty. We owe it to them to live our lives as good upstanding Americans; maintaining the integrity of this country as one that stands for honesty and principle. A nation that demonstrates love and respect for its fellow-man … one that reaches out a hand to the one standing next to him to help in any way possible. We need to groom ourselves up to the image needed to shine for all other countries to see and to want to emulate. We need to fly our ‘Eagle’ high, to have our ‘Stars’ shine brightly and our ‘Stripes’ to wave freely in the breeze. Our pride needs to glow more vivid than any gem, more soundly than any verse and more worthy than any promise. We are the United States of America, thanks to all our servicemen and women.
Although Memorial Day is the time to honor our military of who have passed on, let us also make a point this weekend to pay respect to any military person you may come across. Approach them and let them know how much you appreciate them and their service … shake their hand … give them a pat on the back … and above all say, ‘Thank You’! Let them see how much we care.
May this be a joyous and wonderful Memorial Day Weekend for all. Enjoy and be safe!
