The Lesson From The Oklahoma Tornado

By
Real Estate Agent with Keller Williams Realty 0575737

Coming after a week where we had tornadoes in my backyard in Texas, Oklahoma really got slammed with the EF5 one, over 200 mph, 2 miles wide at one point, 17 miles long and an INCREDIBLE 50 minutes on the ground. I listened to a schoolteacher from one of the elementary schools at a funeral of one of the children, 24 total people killed and she started out how saying the day started out at school just like any day. Then later broke down in tears what happened later with the destructive force of the tornado.

SO What Is The Lesson From The Oklahoma Tornado?

Do not take things for granted, particularly EVER with regard to people.

People are precious. Things can be replaced, but if you LIVE IN THE MOMENT and living correctly in life with relationship with ALL people, NEVER hurting people or definitely not hating on people, but showing kindness to EVERYONE you will not have a problem with this not taking for granted thing. Coupled with this is understanding a time reference of the moment. You really have nowhere else to live BUT the moment, the present. People that live in the past I swear are depressed. People who live in the future are restless and not content with where they currently are and are blind to their blessings. But the tornado goes one step further teaching about the SPEED of change. LITERALLY it can change on a dime and the evidence is there with the obliteration of homes. One night safely tucking kids in bed, the next day no home or even worse for some no kids or no parents.

A tornado is an awesome display of power in nature, but don't MISS the lesson, A WAKE UP CALL to not in life take ANY of it for granted particularly people.

Gary, good observation.  The same applies to any life tragedy.  When we loose someone suddenly, we learn the same lesson that we need to live in the moment, so we may not live with regret later when the one we lost is gone.

Gary - vulnerability is always there for people. People drown a few feet of water caught in the riptide, of get a thromb blocking the blood vessel and die in miunutes...

Tornado just makes a terrible display of power.

An occurance like Oklahoma is a serious reminder just how fragile our existence can be.

Gary, such an honest, thoughtful post. I remember feeling this way after Sandy Hook. In a split second lives are lost and it is so difficult to grasp the feelings of those that have lost loved ones. Things can be replaced, people can not. And we need to remember this every day. There is nothing, nothing more precious than life.

We've had some experience with more than one of these nasty swirling clouds from the sky. Life is definitely fragile and people are much much more important than things...

Gary, When things like this happen I think about how temporary life on this earth is and how uncertain the next day's outcome. Things are just stuff. People have souls and spirits and are the treasures of the world.

Guru Gary, being in the moment is something that is taught in acting so that you remain true in your character and believable. All this is is simply reflecting on life, something I learned a long time ago. I often think of those in 9-11 who didn't say I love you as their family members were leaving for the day, never to return. It is a reminder that moments are precious, as people are. Don't take either for granted.

As a society nowdays we do take things for granted.  We need to wise up and smell the flowers.

Gary so true we can't take anything for granted especially those precious to us.  I know, not a tornado however I recently had a close call. Although I had a great appreciation for life before, it is even deeper now.
