Florida Surfing Association Grom Fest Series, Jacksonville Beach, FL
This is an annual series of three separate surfing competitions for Groms (also known as young surfers).
The Florida Surfing Association was created in 2003 as an organized body for surfing. Their mission is to further the sport of surfing, and to offer programs the encompass their passion for surfing the enrichment of surfers through the sport.
The FSA offers monthly contests with experienced, qualified judges, a well-organized 4-man heat format, rankings to compete in state championships and additional instruction of both beginner and professional athletes.
The FSA has partnerships with Surfers for Autism & the Special Olympics to give kids a chance for social engagement and healthy activity while in the water.
This will be the fifth year of the Super Grom festival and the competition dates are: June 8, July 6 & August 3, 2013. Timing for all events is 9am-1pm, depending on acceptable surf conditions, of course.
All events will be held at the Jacksonville Beach Pier site. Each event is free, and includes lunch, a tee shirt, a medal and a goody bag for each participant. Participation is capped at 150 per event, and this year, they have decided to make a slight change to the rules: you can only enter ONE Super Grom Fest event this year. As an introductory surf opportunity, they want to expose as many new "groms" as they can during the summer season.
The FSA sponsors include: Beaches Hospitality Network (volunteer, sponsorship, community support), Angie's Groms (medals), Two Dudes, Twice the Ice, Lifestyles Realty & Great Atlantic Outfitters (tee shirts).
Food at the event provided by: Taco Lu, Bojangles, Oriental Karinderia & Honey Banked Ham.
Whether you surf or not, or you have groms, this is a great family series of events you may want to check out the next time you are in Jacksonville Beach, Fl.
